Best build quality, aesthetic, & focus ring at $500 price range for 8x32 binoculars? Optics a close second priority.

Me to (about illegal). I live here. These folks are very nice. Its a chain mostly focused on feeding supplies. The owner is a bit of a bino guy, so stocks more binoculars than others in the chain, I'm led to believe. Quite a nice selection, oriented to birders from just getting started to serious.

Yep. My Subaru Outback is way more fun to drive then "sports cars" of the '60s

Maybe... just maybe its not what we normally think, but the opposite. The added weight of those 52s steadies the attainable view of it over the 1032.. makes it better, while the brain struggles to answer why. It must be EP right... Ha! I dont know. Im playing here.

I wonder... 10X gives me more WOW too. Its not always apparent. When out and about with, (as a practical matter), only one bino in tow, you get used to it, don't notice. There is shake, I see it. Maybe for some it's not controllable, but I wonder if they have spent enough time to learn a couple...

They did. I use their MM4 77 scope. Good folks. Did not visit though, or make those comparisons. Sorry. Out of This World Optics from Mendocino was there representing couple Nikons, plus the HGX, SFLs and SFs. Swaro had their own table. As OOTWO sells Opticron and Swaro and the three tables...

They pay a lot to acquire that market perception though, through advertising, dealer support, online content, show participation, (like yesterdays Lodi Sand Hill Crane event. The biggest guys were there. Thats not free. Soft things to be sure, but thats how the market works.

Baffling? Not so much. Disheartening? More, maybe. Suspect it did not evolve this way, in this order, but still is more than likely the way it is. In the beginning, say a company makes the best bino it can, putting their best foot forward hoping to gain advantage, beat the competition. Old...

What to do with a laser range measuring binocular when you are not a hunter ...

Have thought about it. Simple isn’t a word that comes to mind, initially at least. Here’s a question or two. “Your smartphone gives YOU location coordinates with GPS precision” Are you saying your smartphone gives YOUR location coordinates etc…? You know where you are standing? “Numerous...

On the occasion of the HDX, thinking about it …

Your first paragraph is spot on. Was trying to find those comments made week or so back that were critical of Jack Jack and wandered a bit towards the personal, even. Then this? Not sure I feel the same about last paragraph. 8/10, 32/42 represents the “big 4”, the most important grouping of...

On the occasion of the HDX, thinking about it …

As we’ve discussed in the past, Bird Forums binocular sub group is not zactly representative of the Bino buying general public. It’s prolly the last place a Product Manager would come for intel on decisions to be made re product planning, e.g. models, specs, prices, attributes. Spend time...

Just back from Lodi, Ca, Sand Hill Crane Festival, Lodi Sandhill Crane Association – Celebrating the Return of the Crane. Added Sand Hill Crane and Glossy Ibis to life list. Got my hands/eyes on 832HDX, with my own HD 832 in tow, also 840 and 1040 SFL. All very nice. Regarding the HDX, no funny...

Brief Review of Zeiss SFL 8x30 (in comparison with CHD and ELSV 8x32)

Indeed they do, especially if you point them in the wrong direction. Most of us get this. So, yes please, let it die. You do know about the edit key?

Brief Review of Zeiss SFL 8x30 (in comparison with CHD and ELSV 8x32)

As one of those not infuriated, but indeed frustrated members over that Glare Monster thread, I hope Dennis you are not thinking JackJack's mention here and a couple other places of glare, vindicates the unscientific, purely personal stuff you posted there. It went on for 23 pages because you...

Does it make sense having a 10x32 and a 10x42 of the same type?

MMDV I bought my EL, short focus 1042, summer of 2020, apparently just as you were dumping yours. I then 2 years later, after spending a year doing my usual over the top shopping (something I enjoy), comparing the SF and NL 832s, bought an NL. I bought it specifically after buying a scope as a...

Does it make sense having a 10x32 and a 10x42 of the same type?

I’m hiking. Thinking though. I believe it’s the case of the “big 4”, aka 1042, 842, 832, 1032, the 1032 is least popular. Back to your last, the 825’s EP is indeed 3.125, but that 1032, your flavor of the day, has an EP of 3.2. That’s a difference that prolly doesn’t matter much. But does...

Does it make sense having a 10x32 and a 10x42 of the same type?

Agree 3.125 vs 4.2 is different than 32 vs 42. Still conditions right(or maybe one thinks wrong), bet there’s a diff. Since the extra EP is along for the ride, (yes I get we’re talking 4 possibilities), the last argument becomes along for the ride at what price. A half pound extra carried with...

Does it make sense having a 10x32 and a 10x42 of the same type?

An often stated opinion Dennis. I wonder what you see, when the weather is iffy, clouds rolling in and out, things in shadow and NOT the last 10- 20 mins of the day? Or what happens when you're trying to catch the Ridgway Rail scurrying along under a marsh grass over hang, at mid tide against a...

Does it make sense having a 10x32 and a 10x42 of the same type?

Why not protect neck with a different approach to how one carries? RYO for instance. My 5'3" birding partner acknowledges 1042s are heavier than 832s, but also says not a big problem, (with RYO on either). Not sure importance of how many of us have 842s and 832s. Many here are bino collectors...
