Thrushes, all different. April 2024 Florida. Sorry for back of camera photos but please ID if possible

Yes, I agree with 6 as GCTH. The bird in 6 lacks buffy spectacles, and has a distinct grayish patch in front of the eye. Grayer/cooler tones throughout the face and breast and extensive yellow on the lower mandible are less diagnostic, but still supportive, features for GCTH. I've had hundreds...

Thrushes, all different. April 2024 Florida. Sorry for back of camera photos but please ID if possible

Agree - and the first appears to be a Swainson's to me as well. Buffy spectacles appear to be somewhat obscured by the harsh lighting, but are still visible.

Stilt Sandpiper or Dunlin? tampa march 24

Right, stilt sandpipers are approaching lesser yellowlegs size, while dunlin can easily blend in with other peeps. Another thing to note is that dunlin have a fairly even curvature to the bill, while stilt sandpipers have a more pronounced droop near the bill tip. I think your first photo shows...

Stilt Sandpiper or Dunlin? tampa march 24

Agree with Stilt Sandpiper - size and shape look good (rather tall compared to the dowitchers, or at least taller than I would expect a Dunlin to appear) and the pale eyebrow with a hint of buff in the cheek also look good for Stilt.

    Question for Leica Televid Owners

Hi all, I am a new owner of a Leica Televid 65 spotting scope. I purchased it secondhand and have noticed what could be a defect with the eyepiece locking mechanism. When I attach the 25-50x eyepiece, it clicks into place but with enough force in either direction it still twists slightly. It's...

    Baltimore/Orchard Oriole - Michigan, USA

Hi all, Photos taken this morning while chasing after a previously reported orchard oriole in northern Michigan. I thought the bill looked a bit short but the wings might be too dark for orchard? Appreciate any input, thanks!

    Red Crossbills? MA, USA

I do believe I hear the "kip kip" flight calls of Red Crossbill as well.

    Common/Hoary Redpoll - Michigan, USA

Spotted this redpoll in with a flock of Commons at Whitefish Point a few weeks ago. I've passed it off as a Common but wanted to double check. Although not as pale as a confirmed Hoary spotted later, this individuals was a fair bit paler than the surrounding Common Redpolls. Thoughts?

    Hairy or Downy Woodpecker?

Is this a consistent field mark? I feel that I see quite a bit of variation, with some bills as long as the head but many of a bit shorter length.

    Hairy or Downy Woodpecker?

With that bill I'd say Hairy as well.

    Gulls - Michigan, USA

Hi all, I'm seeking identification on a few gulls seen today. The photos were taken from the shore of Lake St. Clair, located in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, amidst a massive flock of Herring/Ring-Billed Gulls. I've got some guesses but I'm curious to hear what you think! 3 and 4 are same...

Warbler(?) from Maynard, MA last October

Pretty standard fall Yellow-Rumped Warbler. Especially note the yellow patches on the shoulders of the bird, drab streaked flanks, and white eye crescents.

    Raptor i.d. help in n.y.

I would call them both Broad-Winged. Fine barring across the belly rather than the streaks and belt of Red-Tailed.

    Veery or Hermit Thrush

My thought as well. I can see a fairly distinct band across the rump where there is a transition from grayish-brown feathers of the back to the rufous color of the tail. However, this appearance seems to be lessened by the bright sunlight entering from the left side of the frame. I can still...

Blackbirds in Flight - Michigan, USA

Thank you. My Stokes guide mentioned that winter Brewer's usually have dark eyes and I was a bit confused by that. I had assumed my birds were Rusty Blackbirds, which are much more expected here anyhow. Thank you both for the help!

Confirm Cackling Goose - Michigan, USA

Thank you Nutcracker. Unfortunately that was the best photo I was able to take of that individual. Yesterday I returned to the site and found two definite Cackling Geese in the mix. Very small geese with short necks and stubby bills.
