Manfrotto XPRO-2W fluid head locked panning problem

Hi, I'm having an issue with the MHXPRO-2W fluid head in that the dial on the lefthand side (labelled U) in the manual is locked tight. Anyone know how to release that ? It enables the panning on the vertical axis.

    Taxonomy in-flux updates

Absolutely!!! These two groups have been confused for so long, yet vocally sound so different that it should have been realized long ago. Furthermore, the Northern group looks more like a small N. ornata for starters which has been the source of more confusion. Using Brown AT and Gray AT is...

    Saltators

It doesn't matter what they state, because they chop and change their own rules as they see fit.... didn't you know? So, here is an example directly from NACC/SACC that refutes what you have just written. Link- A. Split extralimital Aramides albiventris from Aramides cajaneus B. Change...

That's true... and there was never an issue... it's just that I am trying to understand Niels.

    Saltators

Agreed, two good examples that show important criteria for their nomenclature. Changing the name of the nominate taxon or group should have a very special cause and reason. In the case of Grayish Saltator it doesn't. You'll have to explain why you think all three are daughters.... daughters...

    Saltators

Exactly.... the daughter taxa in this case are S. grandis and S. olivascens. They could be sister taxa even. But Grayish Saltator S. coerulescens is not daughter... you have contradicted yourself !

    Saltators

It's not a rule set in stone that the nominate taxon/taxa/group name has to change.... sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I have noticed that SACC keeps changing its mind on this. In this particular case, the new name is worse than the well known name Grayish Saltator which is the most...

    Saltators

Agree with part of what you are saying.... but if there was no change to the name Grayish Saltator it would still now only refer to the coerulescens group which has always been called Grayish/Greyish Saltator. It is non migratory so could not occur in Central America as a vagrant. Central...

    Saltators

Not sure I understand the need to change the vernacular name of coerulescens from Grayish Saltator. Now many would have to check what Bluish-gray Saltator refers to.

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

More than just following the lead... Donsker (IOC chair) was first author of the second proposal for renaming these species, after the eponyms used in the Halley et al. 2017 paper were thrown out under the newly invented "must not offend with eponym rules". So, ..... IOC follows SACCs...

Birds of East Africa -Field Guides

Thanks a lot for that CaliSteve.... the plates look truly great! I am always wary though until I use it in the field... I have always had a problem with cisticolas as they look different in every book. I guess that worn and fresh plumaged cisticolas look different as well, and I tend not to risk...

Birds of East Africa -Field Guides

138 more species than the first edition is definately a big deal. I wouldn't doubt that it's not taxonomically up-to-date either... that should be a given with field guides from this publisher. It's like.. would you expect the authors to just not bother, or the editor not to insist. Someone...

    Cinclodes

To me it looks like a balanced SACC proposal written by Krabbe. I don't see anyone else being so clearly upset as you Thomas. It does really appear that B.L.-L. names the bird after himself in a skewed manner, so I can understand that this would cause conflict with others. Since you know him...

    Cinclodes

You could defend the proposal with a NEW COMMENT if you feel so strongly. I didn't think Krabbe was ever a SACC member btw (maybe I'm wrong?), and you seem to be ranting at him, as well as SACC, (NACC) and the A.O.U./ A.O.S. Is Bernabe Lopez-Lanus a friend of yours? Or what got the bee in your...

    Birdquest E-newsletter

Your often enlightening work with HBW will undoubtedly pave the way for many future taxonomic changes, and I guess (sincerely hope!) that you are being justifiably rewarded for your good work. What it comes down to though, is that the public is not buying the Tobias et al. 2010: 7 point rule...

    Skuas

No hold on whey.... kleptoparasitism is not hunting, it's when some dude forces you to pay for badly washing your windscreen at the lights when you didn't want it washed in the first place! Yes they chase, harass, belly pinch, peck, gauge, they can easily cause a lot of damage, although I don't...

    Skuas

Just for the record.... Jaeger is a Germanic word which means hunter. The Stercorarius sensu stricto do not hunt, while they do occur in the subantarctic... all a bit of a mess really. I think we should just continue to argue this one out for whatever dumb reason.

    AOU 2018 Checklist proposals

Or submit proposals to NACC/ SACC to change names or reverse name changes when you can show the justification for doing so. Anyone, of any nationality can do that, and it will be voted on. Once accepted by the AOU it is more, or very often, likely to be adopted by other authorities (IOC and...
