OK, but what is there at Bempton apart from seabirds and Tree Sparrows (what have the Romans done for us? ;) ) John

You can even make a case for that: no two Springs are alike, and contrasting two makes for additional interest and education. A change will definitely be good after that though. Where would you suggest? John

Yes but they report from other locations during every series, and I think they are also keen to run a whole year at each site they use now, which makes a good deal of sense. The main site has to have a wider selection of stuff than most of the fringes of the UK: look at back issues on here and...

The only bright side is that Chris's pronunciation prevents him from having to emphasise in the British fashion "man-da- TORY" which I think would be complete anathema to him..... John

The BBC used to have a pronunciation department but judging from output across the Corporation it is either gone or no longer compulsory to consult it.... However I got the impression from other words that Megan mispronounced that I am fairly sure were familiar to her, that what we have been...

When you study groups of animals for any time - higher vertebrates we're talking here - you quickly discover that where you can consistently identify individuals they have personalities. So while I agree you can take the trait things too far, you can also argue that mentioning personality...

Yes, I also enjoyed the Jack Snipe and Woodcock. It struck me while dipping Bittern this afternoon at Blashford that a thermal imager might have done the trick in seconds. Oystercatchers though... flippin eck. A thousand things they could show us (how about Purple Sandpipers or the Sanderlings...

Michaela and Chris on Zoe Ball's R2 prog this morning. I'm getting hacked off by continual vegan propaganda now (Chris was pushing the vegan options at the WWT Welney cafe), might start enumerating all the lovely meat fish and eggs I eat in my accounts of birding days. I'll still be watching...
