    Hokkaido. Plover

LRP I think, note yellow eye-ring, and maybe flesh coloured legs? Habitat might help too, Long-billed mostly on rivers.

Brown Goshawk vs. Collared Sparrowhawk, Tasmania

I'd go for one of each, tail shape suggests this

Yes, this is very sad, New Guinea has indeed taken a clobbering by the look of it, I will not be going along with it as this is so open to question. It looks as if nuclear genome stuff rules and field observations, morphology and vocals are sidelined, though accepted for many Indonesian splits.

As feared, one list to rule them all means LOTS of lumps, sad to see the cormorants, catbirds, friarbirds, shrikethrushes etc merged again, surprised they haven't merged Island Thrush again......List Independence beckons unless IOC maintains an identity.

This last one was a cracker, all the Rufous Fantail, Island Thrush and Cicadabird splits to sort out and perfect timing for me as I near the end of the passerines revision for the second edition of the Lynx Field Guide to the Birds of New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago and Bougainville. A...

Waigeo ? Azure Dollarbird record 2019

Seems borderline, but they also suggest the Solomons taxon may be distinct enough to be classified as a species

Waigeo ? Azure Dollarbird record 2019

Excellent, thank you, that clears up the mystery and confirms what I suspected. I will have a look at that NG taxon and add comments accordingly in the FG.

Waigeo ? Azure Dollarbird record 2019

The late David Fisher sent me a photo of an Azure Dollarbird seemingly photographed on Waigeo in West Papua in 2019 (?) It's a pretty rare Halmahera endemic so a surprising record and I'd like to verify it. Does anyone have any details or know someone I can contact? The second edition of the...

Great that clears up my query about both chapini and kaballii initially shown in NW Zambia, and I get a tick!

Uhh, I lead about 10 tours a year so your smartass comment is not exactly helpful....

Albifrons on Erromango seems to be placed with White-headed Island Thrush T. pritzbueri, the latter nominate extinct but albifrons is still extant with one recent record above 300m (Dutson Birds of Melanesia 2011)

Terns on Allahein River estuary, The Gambia

https://doi.org/10.1080/01584197.2024.2352400 The Splendid Fairywren Malurus splendens has four distinct phenotypic forms currently recognised as subspecies, although three species have been recognised within the group in the past. Here, we use multilocus nuclear DNA to test the recent...

I think it's like with many Arabic names, with non-standardised versions of spelling, don't really care either way, we went through all this with Macgregor/MacGregor's Bowerbird and either seemed fine to me. I don't have a problem with Spot-breasted Cuckoo Dove.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - id help please

Did you see the bird rather than just photographing it? If you did the grey would be very apparent assuming it's Cambodian Tailorbird, your images certainly look plausible.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - id help please

Common, Dark-necked and Cambodian are all in the Phnom Penh area, if it's grey above then must be Cambodian but but I can't tell the colour from the photo
