Kowa 66A Performance Observations & Questions

Sounds like the 66A isn’t quite right for you. I’ve never grown to like an optic I wasn’t totally happy with initially. Since you like the view at lower mag the 88 should be a good choice, maintaining that brightness to higher mags. I really like my 883 that replaced my 773 and don’t mind the...

iPhone 15 pro max 5x lens for digiscoping?

Hi, any advice on this please? I’ve tried to find info on the usefulness of higher magnification phone camera lenses for digiscoping, but haven’t found much. I’m wondering if there’s any principles that apply generally, but also as an iPhone user wondering about my next upgrade. I currently...

    Hummingbirds in France?

I had to cut this video short for inclusion in BF, which is a shame, but still shows a good view of a hummingbird hawk moth in my garden in UK today. I shot it in slow motion. They dart around between flowers very quickly in real time.

    Newbie

Hi Roy, as no one’s responded I’ll kick off despite not having relevant experience of the Hawke Endurance scope. I had some Hawke binoculars for a while and have a scope, so can give general advice. Others can get more specific about certain scopes. The standard advice here is to try before you...

What binocular provides your current favourite view?

Those lists are just a compilation of whatever people have said without me filtering, so it all goes on the list. For me I've no problem with steadiness and 3D effect going on the list of qualities of the view that people appreciate and it's favourite view rather than best optics. But I see...

What binocular provides your current favourite view?

Yeh, it's a bit free and easy with the rules here. I've not tried a Swaro 10x56 SLC, but I'm sure it has a fantastic view.

What binocular provides your current favourite view?

Thanks everyone for sharing your current favourite binocular view. I’ve really enjoyed reading your choices and what it is about the view that is so appealing. What a great selection of binoculars. For convenience, here's a summary in no particular order: Zeiss 10 x 56 FL Zeiss 10 x 42 FL Zeiss...

What binocular provides your current favourite view?

This is a bit of shameless excuse to share my current favourite binocular view, but would be great to hear others as well. I’m hoping there may be a couple of surprises in what people choose. I think it’s an interesting question because it’s completely removed from ergonomics and practical...

    Hide views.

It is a snug/tight fit for the Monfrotto column and I have to use the thinnest of sleeves, but I don't see it as a problem, just relieved it fits at all. You can still raise and lower the column in the clamp with a bit of force and no need to use the height lock screw. You can see the sleeve in...

    Hide views.

The scope’s a Kowa 773 with 25-60 eyepiece. The hide clamp is by Viking, not sure of model, but think they just have one. They sell it at Slimbridge and I bought it on a whim and find it really handy. I don’t take my tripod anymore. I particularly enjoy the SLC 15x56 mounted on the 501 Manfrotto...

    Hide views.

Here’s my hide view at Slimbridge WWT. A bit cluttered, but I like having a few different optics on hand and like to stay in one place a while. The binoculars on this outing are SLC 15x56, FL 10x56 and Zeiss Pocket 8x25. All the gear goes in my ruck sack except the pocket which is in a case on...

Any sub-alpha 30-32mm class binoculars that still feel like an alpha ones?

I have the 8x30 MHG and SV 8.5x42 FP and find them an excellent combo to own. They each have their own charms and I don't miss the other when using them. With the 8x30 it's obviously their size and that they feel great in the hand (small but solid with lovely armour) while having the wide FOV...

    Monopod and binocular magnification.

Solution for tall packable monopod…… I bought 2 cheapish monopods with a tilting head and mini-folding feet. I took the head off one and the feet off the other and they neatly screw together to give more than enough height (while being surprisingly robust) and unscrew easily for packing away. I...

    8x32

With glasses in the mix you can vary CF. If you're short sighted and want to get better CF just remove your glasses. For me with -2.75 eye sight it brings CF in about 30cm at 1.5m with glasses on (regardless of bins). If you're long sighted and want closer focus keep your glasses on.

New Swarovski EL 10x42 v. NL Pure 10x42

If you ever feel like you need better than the 8.5x ELs, just get a tripod and mount for them…. the view through them on a tripod is really something!

How do you carry your binoculars?

Pocket binoculars in a belt case with wrist strap is the ideal always with you option. They stay safe, out of the way and easy to access. Holster style is fun.

The new ZEISS SFL Binoculars. Maximum Image Quality. Minimum Weight.

I agree and with the focus wheel central meaning gripping more forward that should reduce shake.

New Zeiss binos 8x40 SFL and 10x40 SFL

Perhaps it’s already been commented on, but I do hope Zeiss will be bringing out an 8x30 SFL and 10x30 SFL in the future. Given how good the Victory Pockets are at 8x25, they could be excellent. As much as I enjoy my 8x30 HG’s there’s room for improvement in overall quality, and similarly with...

8x32 Below $400- Nikon, Zeiss, or Kowa?

The Travellers are a very good choice. Interested to hear how you get on with them and hope they work out for you.

    Compact binoculairs and glasses

You need to look for ones that offer a large field of view (fov). This will be shown in their specifications and for an 8x binocular a fov of 7 degrees or above in pocket binoculars is quite large, though in pocket bins 6.5 is still fine, but below this will start giving the narrow field of view...

Which of your binoculars are the most "delicious" ones?

You'd be very welcome to try them if you find yourself in my neck of the woods - Gloucestershire or Berkshire. I posted about them before with zero interest and you can see the post here: Increasing the apparent field of view of EL 8.5x42s looking at the image of them in that post it really...

Which of your binoculars are the most "delicious" ones?

My most delicious view is somewhat unique. It's a Swarovski 8.5x42 EL FP that I've added extra lenses to the eye-pieces. This has the effect of reducing the flatness of the field (giving a curved field), slightly increasing the magnification to about 9x and therefore also increasing the apparent...

    Most unusual use for binoculars?

In crowded airports to read gate and departure information when not wanting to loose my seat and too far from the board to read it without them.
