    Morocco birding trip

I don't think "Safety" is a concern that I have after spending three weeks in Morocco (Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech with trips to Fez, Chefchaouen and the High Atlas Mountains). I think getting a local birding guide would take you to the right spots. Unlike in tropical countries, you will find...

Binoculars confiscated by Egyptian authorities at airport

Thank you for the wishes. Have been on the road for 25 months now immediately after retirement while putting the house up for remodeling. The other secret is that it is cheaper for us to travel than rent in San Francisco, while the major remodeling is going on. It gets a bit tiring sometimes...

Binoculars confiscated by Egyptian authorities at airport

Muddling the water a bit with my story about Ethiopia, an episode where I lost about US$ 4K in the process without even visiting the country! I had booked three week long stay in Addis Ababa and long weekendish jaunts to Simien, Lalibela, Bale Mountains, etc. thru a local travel agent and had...

    Morocco birding trip

Here is a cautionary tale. I found a guide by the name, Mohamed Bargache, from the the fatbirder blog, discussed a short two day trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech for which I booked the train ticket from Casablanca (all this is for Nov 2024), booked a night stay in Marrakech and a hotel...

    Marrakesh Bird Guides?

Since the OP is looking for a birding guide, here is a cautionary tale. I found a guide by the name, Mohamed Bargache, from the the fatbirder blog, discussed a short two day trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech for which I booked the train ticket from Casablanca (all this is for Nov 2024)...

    Weekend near KL

😂😂😂 Wouldn't it be amazing to find taxi drivers who are birding guides as well! I have sent a message to Wilbur Goh, the guide you recommended. I have only one weekend to spare after filling the rest with plans. Can't eat Malaysia in one bite. I am so thankful for the advice on this forum and...

Thanks, Dave. Will contact them now. I haven't rented a car here. Hopefully, they are available.

    Weekend near KL

We spent 3 hrs in Bukit Tinggi today and it was amazing. First, walking around in 77F temperature never felt so comfortable (we usually whine when our home city San Francisco touches 70F, which happens just a handful of days in the summer), but spending about ten days in Singapore and KL has...

    Weekend near KL

Good points as I noticed that it takes Google map reports the same travel time from Bukit Tinggi as KL. My wife doesn't like windy roads. We are staying close to the Kerinchi LRT and that will cut thru the central KL.

    Weekend near KL

Thanks for the advice, Joost. Appreciate that. I am wondering if I can do travel to Bukit Tinggi one evening, stay the night at the hotel, do an early morning and full day birding there and then take a ride to Fraser's Hill that evening, stay at the hotel there and do a whole day of birding...

    Weekend near KL

Hi, Very useful information on this thread. Thank you for that. I looked up the hotel and it is inexpensive and the Grab ride from our KL AirBnB and back is not that expensive either. However, we really need a local guide as my wife and I are terrible in locating birds. Is there a local guide...

Was looking for birding in Singapore, landed here

Hello, Hola, everyone! Thanks for the welcome messages. Thank you for taking your time to do that. I find that very welcoming and kind! I will post on the other forum as recommended. And will be happy to share some of my highly amateurish photos.

    Ecuador Amazon Questions

Have fun in Ecuador and in the Napo river area. We spent over two months in Quito (prefer the cooler climate there than the hot and humid Amazon) and birding was excellent around Quito (over 200 lifers there for me). In Napo, we stayed for 3 nights at the La Selva Lodge and loved the birding and...

Was looking for birding in Singapore, landed here

Hi, As the title of the thread says, that is how I found this forum and registered immediately. I am a retired electrical engineer and now I spend my time traveling, photographing and birding along with my wife, who is still working remotely during our travels. Our home is in San Francisco...
