Tend to agree, but over the years I have seen a number of sightings up north, be one to watch to see what happens.

Happy (albeit a bit late now) new year Mike. Hoping to be leading a trip for an overseas tour company in May if we get enough clients, but if not, most likely will still be over to catch up with the birds and orchids. My 2nd edition of Birds of Mallorca is still selling well and a number of...

Hi im Ann live in S Wales & interested in all wildlife including birds. Especially the birds that visit my garden on a daily basis.

Welcome Ann from a fellow S Wales birder. I have been posting mostly on the Mallorca part of the bird forum as I have a lot of connections there bird wise. Back here, only had 1 chaffinch and 1 goldfinch in the garden, but plenty of everything else, including a flock of 11 long tailed tits which...

Just going by what I have read. The author seems to know his flora and fauna. I agree July does seem an unlikely month but on Mallorca I have seen migrants and rarities at odd times. That's one thing with birds, they can, and do turn up anywhere at very odd times. If I include anything in...

Morning all and Feliz Navidad. I recently came across a book called the Naturalist in Majorca, and found some interesting records of species that were not included in my guide book 'Birds of Mallorca'. It seems that for example the broad-billed sandpiper found not so long back was not the first...

Morning, where is the Fisherman's Walk you mention please? I am probably aware of it by another name but wanted to make sure as Balearic Warbler sightings have been a bit difficult up north recently. Boquer Valley gets a lot of people strolling through for the small beach from around 08.30 so...

Enjoying reading what you guys are seeing whilst I am here in South Wales, enjoying the updates very much. Good to see on another thread that the sides of the Son Real hide have been roped of to keep back inquisitive (and daft) people, and a kingfisher there was an unexpected record. On my last...

Excited to announce that my new book on the Hoopoe is available to pre-order (available later this month). About the book - What is there not to love about the Hoopoe - packed with character and entertaining, with subtle colours and a punk rocker style head crest with a flight like a giant...

The spotless raised a small family there this year which is a good record for the north (my previous sightings have all been from the south mainly around Ses Sallines).

Hi Michael. As you know I have had success with Great Bittern at the Albufera over the years. In almost every year I have visited I have seen at least one, on one occasion in 2002 I had 4 together in flight. This May I had 1 only. In 1993 whilst staying at the Habitat Apartment in Puerto...

    Mallorca 2023

Hi, without seeing the bird I wouldn't like to be 100%, but I know Richard's Pipit has a very long hind claw, one of the ID features for this species. They have been recorded albeit a rarity down in the south previously. Hope this is food for thought. Nev.
