How many cuckoos have you seen?

Only this young. In Malghera, above the tree line, at 2000 m (I think it's a cuckoo...). It was almost on the path. In Malghera I often hear them in spring (late spring). Shot taken with a manual focus 25mm lens, I was really close, I hope I didn't disturb it too much. It eventually flew a few...

    Visit to Milan

You can see the Bearded Vulture in Valtellina, particularly in Stelvio National Park. Note that there is still a lot of snow over 2300/2400 m, the Stelvio pass is closed, it will open June 1 (disgusting traffic of motorbikes). The Foscagno pass on the state road to Livigno (2291m) is always...

How do you carry your binoculars?

While looking for a green midlayer I found these, they might be useful.

Veiling glare: a bird club's unanimous verdict on my 8x32 EL FP

The photo only shows the position of the sun, it was not taken with binoculars, I only used the (rather dirty) lens of the smartphone.

'The Big Three': NL Pure, Noctivid, Victory SF - A Brief Comparison

They are roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) droppings, see the measuring tape.

    Swarovski SL porro models

Nomen omen... Maybe I bought a Swarovski because the shop where I bought it is located exactly at the foot of Monte Storile (from italian "Astore"="Habicht"). "Monte de Astorilo seu de Asquaiio ultra vallem de Musella intus." (15.5.1518)

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Codirossone (Common rock thrush, Monticola saxatilis) on a rock, in a gentle alpine rain, Malghera Valley, Western Grosina Valley, Valtellina.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Two White-winged snowfinches and two Golden eagles, Malghera valley, Western Grosina Valley, Valtellina.

Would you get an NL Pure 32mm if you already had a 42, or maybe something else?

I would like to try the Habicht 8x30 w, I don't like the egyptian woods of my NL 10x42. Maybe Habicht 8x30 w in the woods and NL 10x42 above the tree line? Weight and ageing would suggest the reverse, but magnification wins, for now.

Has anyone noticed their NL Pure binoculars misting up?

I find the headrest very useful for moving the binoculars down and to the right/left while maintaining contact with the forehead and the right distance between the eyes and the eyepieces.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I'm totally inexperienced... but I had seen it a few days ago in a small manual on the Fauna of Valtellina. Immediately after observing it, I found on Wikipedia a description very similar to the one I had memorized while observing the bird.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Right now observing a Coal tit on a spruce, I saw something bigger on the top of the same spruce, a Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes). Along the small road to Chemp, Mount Serottini/Mortirolo Pass, Valtellina.

Veiling glare: a bird club's unanimous verdict on my 8x32 EL FP

Right now I can see very well without any glare, just a very slight loss of contrast, Monte Masuccio in the center right. (NL 10x42)

Veiling glare: a bird club's unanimous verdict on my 8x32 EL FP

Hume🍺 would say that the connection between field curvature and 3D effect is a matter of fact, not a relation of ideas.

    So I took the plunge...

After a walk in the woods of Mortirolo pass/Mount Serottini, I'm very happy I bought the NL 10x42 instead of the 8x42, all the little birds (uccellini) were chirping on top of huge spruces...

Prevent glare in the Swarovski NL Pure ??

"The West of which I speak is but another name for the Wild; and what I have been preparing to say is, that in Wildness is the preservation of the world." We are all sons of Thoreau.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I just observed a Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europaea) during my afternoon cardiowalk on the trail to Vedait, near "La posa del fen".

Prevent glare in the Swarovski NL Pure ??

Scott, I took the photo because I wanted to show the position of the sun, I also tried to avoid the smartphone's auto hdr effect, I wanted to make the blinding glare of the scene, with the naked eye I couldn't see anything, not even the hut. I think if I continue with these tests my eyes will fry...

Prevent glare in the Swarovski NL Pure ??

These connections between the humble hut in Vedait and the Wild West, the aristocracy of all the wilderness, are fascinating and emotional. That hut is not mine, my hut (actually my wife's) is this one, it is at a higher altitude, in a valley on the opposite side of the Valtellina, in the b&w...

Prevent glare in the Swarovski NL Pure ??

I agree with what Pinac/Canip writes on his website about the NL 8x32: "Testing the binocular over many days, we found that you can trigger lots of glare when observing e.g. against a low-standing sun, but you can also totally eliminate glare by adjusting eyecups and properly positioning your...

Show us your "vintage" and classic binos

https://www.beniculturali.inaf.it/sicap/opac.aspx?WEB=INAFS&OPAC=AD&ID=AD-11818 The title of the manuscript is wrong. The right title is "Notice sur la longue-vue Napoleon III" not "Notice sur la longue-rue Napoleon III"...

Show us your "vintage" and classic binos

Binoculars used by my father-in-law Pietro Valmadre when he was officer of the alpine corps during the WWII and, later, when he was a partisan in the mountains of Valtellina (with the role of "political commissar") in a brigade of “Giustizia e libertà” (“Justice and Freedom", liberal democrats)...
