Which 10x binoculars to pair up my SLC 8x42?

The differences between a Habicht 10x40 and your state-of-the-art SLC could teach you how ergonomics in binos have advanced: https://www.birdforum.net/threads/second-hand-habicht-porro%E2%80%99s-to-use.391231/#post-4020628 Hence, I would suggest a current Swarovski CL Companion 10x30.

    Compact Case for Lecia Monovid

Yes, the bulky Monovid "poser case" contradicts its intended use as a device you can carry along everytime. Hence, I use instead the soft leather pouch of a Carl Zeiss Monocular 8x20 that adds neither volume nor weight.

    older tripod worth a try?

The Bogen 3021 pictured is the forefather of the current Manfrotto MT055XPRO3. Back in the days the Italian-made Bogen 3021 (U.S. designation; Manfrotto 055 Triminor in the rest of the world) enjoyed a good reputation as the cheapest serious tripod for demanding users. In the 1990s, Zeiss and...

    Help choosing a swarovski

Congrats to your great Gitzo tripod! In my opinion this is the perfect base for any of the scopes you mention. Bill Atwoods recommendation Gitzo GHF2W would be great, too, and is in my opinion the head of choice. I just hate center colums and have abolished my last tripod with built-in column 15...

    Help choosing a swarovski

I'm not horukuru, but I'd like to answer as I own the 65/95 ATX combo. In contrast to some I started with the 65 to get a portable scope and added the 95 later (an impulse buying to be honest ;)). I am very happy with them and both lenses get their uses but if I had aquired the 85 first I would...

    Help choosing a swarovski

Considering your information above I would recommend the ATX 85. A really, really great scope, noticeable more compact than the 95 or the giant 115, starting with 25X instead of 30x, capable of low-light viewing. As an alternative you could look at the also great Kowa TSN-883. To me, an ATX 95...

Differences in sharpness between BTX 115 and 85?

dwever, many thanks for your kind comment. But to make things plain I'm neither a real expert nor a professional user but a sheer amateur depicting his very personal impressions and hampered by his German school English. So please take my words with a grain of salt. ;-) Question 1.: Very easy -...

Do I need the balance rail?

I once tried the rail with my ATX/95 combo and found a slight amount of "wobble". I much prefer an Arca-style QR plate with an anti-rotation lid, something like e.g. this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EMcAAOxyzGlQ44iF/s-l1600.jpg...

Differences in sharpness between BTX 115 and 85?

As a happy owner of the 65 and 95 modules as well as the ATX eyepiece I was tempted to try the 115 to replace possibly my 95. So I ordered the 115 and additionally the 85 to find out whether a "small solution" - i.e. solely the 85 and the ATX - could be sufficient for my needs. Moreover, there...

Swarovksi SLC 10x56 versus Zeiss Victory HT 10x54

I preferred the SLC to the HT (and bought it happily): https://www.birdforum.net/threads/leica-10x50-ba-vs-new-models.378410/page-3#post-3872954 BTW, I would even favor the Conquest 10x56 over the HT 10x54. But that's just me.

    Leica 8x20 Monovid Review

I also concur Roger Vine's review. The optical quality of the Monovid is top notch and far superior to all other monoculars I have ever tested and the build quality is first class. And yes, holding the Monovid in your palm while pressing your hand to your eye-socket is the way to go. The...

    Swaro improvements report

Okay, that sounds to me as if you did not only want to suggest some improvements without obligation, just as many customers do. Instead, it seems to me that you tried to *sell* your idea to Swarovski but they refused. Am I right? If so, their response is only fair IMHO: eventually, it's their...

    ATX/STX rumor

I bet it will! And admittedly, the BTX is alluring. ; But it's also darn heavy: 1,400 g compared to 800 g for the ATX. That would qualify the 115 finally for stationary purposes.
  25. F

    ATX/STX rumor

Sorry, I am completely ignorant to astronomy and have never used my binos and scopes for stargazing. What I can say is that the 115 is made to the same high quality level known from the other Swarovski *TX components, including watertightness. Moreover, by first-hand experience I can reassure...
