A splendid Puss Moth was an excellent best of a pretty fair bunch this morning, never seen one before. Coxcomb Prominent & Nutmeg were year ticks, Buff-tip, a couple of Ele Hawks and a Kitten provided some attractive support. I nearly didn't bother trapping Thursday night, thought it might rain (it didn't). Very glad I risked it, given I bagged no fewer than 5 garden ticks and a further 7 year ticks in a catch of over 50 moths of over 30 species. It was a micro that stole the show on Sunday night, a Scarce Light Plume, quite a rare migrant. I managed to fumble potting it to enable better photos, but fortunately managed to get a shot in situ at the bottom of the trap. It's not a Striped Hawk-moth, but I'll take it! A pretty good crop this morning, 31 of 23 species. Pick of the bunch were my first Bordered White and second Ingrailed Clay and the year's first Cinnabar, Clouded Silver & Riband Waves. Other treats included Scorched Wing, Pebble Hook-tip, a couple of White Ermine and a Mottled Beauty.- JWN Andrewes
