    BTX Alternatives

The Omegon can receive astro-eps and the Baader Zooms should not vignette, if there is no additional limitation besides the Linear BinoViewer fieldstop - see LTX and 20# (there is another wide zoom that I will test with the LBV zooms test). Still didn't tested the Omegon since is angled and...

Does BTX work at all in bird watching?

It will depend how the market evolves... I was expecting already other producers reply to the BTX (specially Zeiss Swaro X vs. Harpia), but after almost 8 years from the release of the BTX the only BV alternative I noticed is produced in Taiwan (e.g. Omegon BV), and although not too expensive...

    Maksutov telescope for birdwatching.?

Not used a Maksutov-Cassegrain but still have an old C5: - besides the limitation of lower mags too high (the reason I opted for the C5 instead of a similar aperture Maksutov-Cassegrain...), the other limiting factor is the erector image quality that isn't good over 60x... See Test of image...

    Kowa 99 Update?

It could make sense for astro use but my tests with the Moon (light availability isn't a problem...), showed to me that 2 extenders wouldn't result on a real gain in resolution, both with the Swaro X95 and the X115... Someone can do the same test with the Kowas.

Travelling spotting scopes vs. Image Stabilised (IS) binoculars

Doing duck and flamingo counts by car, nowadays I rarely need to mount the scope since the 18x50 IS allows me to identify birds and count them on 99% of the situations, even at high distances!... (y) I went to the Canon due to the AFOVs and aperture.

Travelling spotting scopes vs. Image Stabilised (IS) binoculars

And the practical difference in terms of resolution within an hand-held 12x and a IS 16x is much higher than the difference in magnification may suggest!

Travelling spotting scopes vs. Image Stabilised (IS) binoculars

Many years ago, I looked through a Zeiss 20x60 and didn't liked - not eye-glass friendly and too short AFOV for the price. Now a updated version of it might be interesting!...

Travelling spotting scopes vs. Image Stabilised (IS) binoculars

Reading atc vs. stc I remembered to share my experience: - I was thinking of getting a STC56 to combine with my STX115, to get wider FOVs for more easily localise marked ducks and then resight these with the X115. After many years using 15x56 binoculars, I opted instead for a Canon 18x50 IS...

SVBony SuperZoom vs. APM SuperZoom vs. Baader Zoom

I updated the link above with more information and AFOVs photos on the Optolyth 100: the SVB zoom show a bit less AFOV than the Swaro X at minimum magnification position but has larger AFOV at maximum magnification - the Optolyth compares well to the Swaro X, in terms of AFOVs!...

    Finally took the plunge !!

The a6700 should be excellent with the X85. I use a Swaro adapter with a a6000 - it maintains the autofocus - see Swaro X digiscopy with a6000

SVBony SuperZoom vs. APM SuperZoom vs. Baader Zoom

Tried today on a Pentax PF100 and, at higher mag, doesn't reached perfect focus at the infinite - if you have a Pentax scope and are interested on it, purchase from a seller with good return policy, in case it doesn´t reach focus with your Pentax.

    Alert to Optolyth scopes users!

Will be developed at Zoom test There is already a photo showing how it looks with the Optolyth 100!

SVBony SuperZoom vs. APM SuperZoom vs. Baader Zoom

At Zoom test I compare these zooms for birding, both with the Optolyth 100 and my TMB92 combo. Might be also interesting for Pentax scope users. Will develop with time and will inform updates here. Will the interesting to compare the Optolyth to the Swaro X115 - AFOVs will be more similar...

    Alert to Optolyth scopes users!

If you have a less old scope (serial number higher 126475), and plan to purchase a new eye-piece, wait a few more days since there is a new wide-zoom astro eyepiece that reach focus! Will post more information as soon as possible...

Larger Pentax spotting scope choice? PF-100 or PF-85?

Celestron and other Chinese made scopes seem to suffer from smaller prisms that vignette when using wider FOV eps. The PF100 has prism larger than the 1.25" FOV - there is a gain using 2" eps with this scope - search at Pentax posts here at BF.

    X115 vs. X95

The STX115 and the ATX115 use all aperture. Ironically, the BTX115 doesn't... At Swaro X derivations you can see how to get much wider FOVs from a X objective module.
  21. D

    X115 vs. X95

The erecting prisms also reduce the length of the spotting scopes, when compared to astro-refractors. The X115 has about 1% longer focal length than the X95, as mentioned at my page linked above. That is more noticeable when using the 1.7x extender.

General spotting scope differences between brands and price points? Kowa, Pentax, Zeiss, Swarovski, etc.

Pentax isn't an alpha scope producer and prices show that. I like the Swaro X scopes but the price tags seem higher in the USA than within EU, when compared to Kowa. Kowa 88 should be compared to Swaro X85. Kowa 99 show Spherical aberration - the X95 doesn't but the X115 does - you might be...

Larger Pentax spotting scope choice? PF-100 or PF-85?

Can't comment the 85 model but I have experience with 2 PF100 - see test of 100mm scopes The PF100 is a nice scope but need the right eps to deliver all its potential. XWs are nice eps but the Pentax zoom eps aren't the best. Within some weeks I can tell if a new astro wide zoom will reach...

    Pentax PF-85 EDa review

Not the best advice... Your bino telescope is much less corrected (it's a doublet, so with more curved field...), than the Pentax scope! Also, XW and XF eps are very different. Any comparison of eps must be done with this scope model and not with a different scope or telescope! Noblex/Docter...

    Kowa 99 Update?
