Canary Islands Chiffchaff? (Jan, La Gomera)

I would stick my head out and call this an Iberian Chiffy. The Canary Islands Chiffchaff is very buff coloured with no green tones, almost similar to a Wren. See linked photo...

    Some Zuiko 70-300mm lens questions

Most of my pictures are more or less cropped. Tis one is taken with the TC on (focal length 425mm) and wide open (f8.0). It is heavily cropped: https://www.flickr.com/photos/87078874@N07/15825807696/in/set-72157650359808292/ This one is also taken with the EC-14 on (focal length 338mm, f7.6)...

    Landscape lens

I have only experience with the Sigma 19mm which I love because of its fast AF, edge to edge sharpness, good contrast and nice colours. It is the lens that spends most time on my Olympus OM-D E-M5. Some of my examples can be found here...

    Some Zuiko 70-300mm lens questions

Thanks! The AF is fast enough for non flying birds but for birds in flight it sometimes hunts focus. I use the Viltrox adapter (can be found extremely cheap on Ebay). My tripod is usually occupied by the spotting scope so almost all pictures are taken handheld. With the amazing image...

    Some Zuiko 70-300mm lens questions

Why shouldn't you hold it by the zoom ring? That is where I hold it. I use SAF+MF on my OM-D E-M5 for the same reasons as you do. This is my primary bird lens. I like the bokeh that it produces and it is sharp enough for me. I even use the EC-14 converter with good results. I have put...

    Common or lesser kestrel, Riyadh?

I would put this down as a common kestrel. The claws are in my view not as bright grey as i would expect from a lesser and maybe the reflected sun makes them look paler than they are? Another feature pointing towards common kestrel is the well marked moustache. It is a bit hard to judge from...

Yellow ring on Yellow Legged Gull in Frankfurt AM - Origins?

Thanks again. I'll keep my eyes open and try to get better shots where the ring numbers/letters are visible... /Per

Yellow ring on Yellow Legged Gull in Frankfurt AM - Origins?

Thanks a lot for the info! I visit Frankfurt quite often (business) and I have always wondered where the YLG:s flying by along the river Main comes from. Do you by any chance know where the colony where they breed is located? Do you also know if this observation should be reported somewhere...

Yellow ring on Yellow Legged Gull in Frankfurt AM - Origins?

Last week I saw this second year Yellow-Legged Gull in Frankfurt AM, Germany. Looking at the photo at home, I noticed that it had a yellow ring on its left leg. Unfortunately, it was too distant to get a good Picture and I could not read the letters (ends with "M" or "H"?). www.cr-birding.org...
