review: Swarovski Habicht 8x30 from 1961 - incredible

Sorry for the late reply I just saw this. I have an old pair of Habicht 8x30 tirol serial number 912563 (I don't know how old they are) in very good condition and they are wonderful, the center sharpness for an old binocular is VERY impressive I know not if they have ever been serviced (EBAY)...

Internal-focusing Porros (Leuopold, Minox) - anyone still using them?

I have the Opticron version and apart from the notchy focuser (probably only my sample) they are stunningly, tack sharp, neutral colours, they are a bit heavy but every time I use them, I ask why would I need anything else. Sadly, no longer made but you may get them on the second-hand market, I...

    Carl Zeiss 8x30

    8x30 Eii Equivalent Replacement

I am sorry about the late reply, the repair facilities in the UK are horrible, I tried to get a pair of Hartmans repaired and there are only two places that will repair bins here in the whole of the UK, and one will not do older binoculars because of the scarcity of parts, I hope somebody here...

Kowa BD II XD 8x42 vs. Verano BGA VHD 8x42

I bought a pair of Opticron Savanah 8x30 porro's and for £109 they are well worth the money, made in China, Yes but they are as good as any at that price, would I prefer made in Japan? Of course but I am not complaining. Take care, enjoy the birds, and good health to you Sir.

    CL Companion 8x30

Thank you for the reply, I was thinking about these (Swarovski CL 8x30) ) but it would take nearly a whole year of savings as I am a Carer for a parent and money does not flow in my direction. My first and probably final decision will be the Habicht 8x30, I think I am just exploring options as...

    CL Companion 8x30

I know this may be off-topic but I had a similar experience with a set of Opticrons HRWP (I am not very wealthy) and could not get comfortable with them at all, In despair, I wanted to send them back but decided to give them a bit longer so we might Gel together, ten days later we clicked (so to...

    Leica Trinovid BN 8x32

Absolutely, My father gave me his watch, it was worth pennies, was well out of date, needed a service and it was stolen in France. I just bought a watch for £400 and wish I could have used that money to buy my old man's watch back. Do not sell your old man's Binoculars, you're selling memories mate.

    Wider FOV bins

I will gladly if you can kindly pass on any info about the date of manufacture. I bought them from E-bay and was told they were between 1952-1955. Hartmann optik 117 porlerim 8x30, seriel number, 47795. I hope this helps, Kindes of regards to you and all here.

    Wider FOV bins

I have tried to get some history about hartmann bins and there is very little, they are crystal clear when the light is right and are a delight to use, as I have said before. The field of view never really matters to me (as a birder the birds are in the middle) but after using my other bins the...

    Nikon 10x35 E11

There you go mate, keep it simple if it works don't fix it, I would like the 8x30 E2 but silly money buys not-so-silly food and these days that counts more. Good health to you and happy birding friend.

Product Review: The Opticron Savanna WP 8 x 30

I could not agree more, however, I thought it was called "Birdforum" not "Binocularforum", For those plebs like myself who will never acquire and only aspire to the best binoculars we make do with what we can afford, Like the afore-mentioned Savanna 8x30, the build quality is OK, they ARE cheap...

Product Review: The Opticron Savanna WP 8 x 30

I just bought a pair, I won't go into all the doo-dah and specs, these are cheap, £109 I paid for mine, I have others, nothing too flashy or expensive. These are NO match for their bigger brother, The HR WP and I didn't expect them to be, My 8x42 HR WP are astonishing regardless of price or...

    Wider FOV bins

Yeah! I know, but the birds I watch are normally in the middle, I wish I could afford the likes of Habicht or Nikon SE, FOV has never been an issue for me, I have a pair of perfect 70-year-old Hartman Optic porlerim 8x30 and there is no FOV or close focus. Regards

    Nikon 8x30 EII
