    Normally when our Flowering Gums are "Out" we get lots of Musk Lorikeets but this year just the noisy Rainbows.

    There is a reserve with a walking and cycling track that follows a local motorway. Move 25 metres from the path and the bushes are alive with these tiny birds. Wait and they'll pose.

    Every two years or so our flowering gum tree has a bumper crop of blooms and hence lorikeets. Mainly the Musk Lorikeet (in the picture) but regularly the Rainbow Lorikeet, but I like theses best.

    These characters arrive when the flowering gum trees are blooming. They arrive in numbers and avidly search out the nectar moving quickly through the tree.

    We occasionally get visits by the Kookaburras and this one was happy to just sit and watch the photographer.

    These birds appear only once a year and that's to get the seed pods on a creeper in the garden. How they know it's there and that the pods are ready is anybody's guess.

    The flowering gum tree is out at the moment and is attracting all sorts of nectar seeking birds. This youngster was have a rest when I found him.

    Living in the suburbs we rarely see these birds near the house but the trees are maturing and attracting some of our larger birds.

    I can't help myself! These guys just love the flowering gum trees in our yard and they keep calling out for me to come and play.

    This aggressive bird was trying to chase the Musk Lorikeets from the flowering gum tree. The Noisy Miner seems to eat insects as well as the the nectar from the trees.

    Photographed in the wild in a flowering gum. Generally they move so quickly and the tree with so many leaves and twigs but this one was co-operative.

    :smile: Thanks everyone. I just bought the EOS 350d and was trying out my old 100 - 300 zoom. At 300 it take a great shot. The 350D seems to be working fine. I've tried to find the UV shots but keep getting lost. Lima, some of your photographs are terrific. Cheers, Richard Conn
