Hazel grouse or black grouse droppings (Switzerland, May)

I just got a mail from a Tetraonidae expert from ornitho.ch. The droppings are too large for Hazel Grouse. They are from the Black Grouse thus.

Hazel grouse or black grouse droppings (Switzerland, May)

Hi, The question is in the title. Is it possible to identify the species based on these droppings? Best, Christian

    Warbler - Israel September

Hi, Long primary projection would restrict this bird to Reed, Marsh, Great Reed, Olive Tree. Olive Tree would have paler edge on secondaries. The bird has a thrush-like appearance. Could it be a Great Reed? Or is it something totally different?

    Flycatcher (Israel - September)

Hi, Which species of flycatcher is it? Jizz points to European Pied but wing pattern may not fully match this species IMO (not enough white on the tertials for example). Apology for the out-of-focus picture. Best, Christian

Common or spotted redshank (Israel - September)

    Thanks for the confirmation :)

Common or spotted redshank (Israel - September)

Hi, I initially thought it was a common redshank but other people are now suggesting spotted redshank. Which species is it then?

    Pratincole (Israel - September)

Yes the ID guide is excellent. The extent of the red on the bill points towards collared indeed. I have a hard time to distinguish the tail on this bird though so I cannot appreciate the tail character.

    Pratincole (Israel - September)

Hi, Would it be possible to identify this pratincole down to the species level? The bird was not seen flying unfortunately. Regards, Christian

House or Spanish Sparrow (Israel - September)

To clarify: the two images are from the same bird.

House or Spanish Sparrow (Israel - September)

Hi, I initially thought it was a house sparrow but taking a second look I am wondering now whether it is a Spanish (the head pattern would fit as well as the rather marked streaking on the flanks). Christian

    Lanius minor or excubitor?

    Thanks :)

    Lanius minor or excubitor?

Hi, Picture taken in Israël in September. I am hesitating between a Lesser and a Great Grey Shrike. What do you think? Have a great day, Christian

    Clanga eagle (Israël - September)

Hi, These are long-shot photos of what seems to be a Clanga eagle. Any chance to say whether it is a greater or lesser spotted eagle? Christian

    Brown job - Israel (September)

Although I guess Upcher's is as valid an option as is Eastern Olivaceous, right?

    Brown job - Israel (September)

Thanks for your comments. I am happy with the idea that this is an Eastern Olivaceous Warbler.

    Brown job - Israel (September)

Hi, I have only this image of the bird photographed in September at Ein Gedi near the Dead Sea in Israel. I wonder if someone can put a name on it? A warbler maybe? Or a wheatear? Christian

Ortolan or Cretzschmar's Bunting (Southern Israel - September)

Combining the comments of Phil and Harry, would Cretzschmar's be the best option?

    Small wader - Somme (France)

Thanks. Must be Common Sandpiper indeed. I found images of Common Sandpipers on the web showing their underwing, which fits the pattern seen on my bird.

    Small wader - Somme (France)

Hi, I photographed a Garganey at the Ornithological Nature Reserve at Grand-Laviers (Somme - France) in May. Looking at these pictures on my computer, I now see that there is another small bird on the left of the Garganey. It looks like a wader but I cannot put a name on it. The underwing is...

Hipppolais (Baie de Somme, France - May)

Thanks for your comments. I had a hard time appreciating how long the primaries were.
