    Hamza countryfile tonight which bins?

Can’t tell you the brand/manufacturer but they appear to be Image Stabilised I’d suggest finding his profile on social media and sending a private message, if nobody here can identify them

    Source for lens covers

I assume that you have tried to source original manufacturer’s equipment and can not (this would be my first choice). In the U.K. I would shop with Opticron, who do a broad range of products of this type. As I understand it (although I’m aware that I’m not correct 100% of the time) you can buy...

    RSPB proposes cuts?

Doesn’t everyone's birding kit include a torch (small and light enough to hold in your teeth) and a bog roll ?

    RSPB proposes cuts?

In my humble opinion the 7 sites mentioned is not the full list. I can only speak for my area but I know Burton Mere Wetlands (Cheshire/Wirral) and Conwy are impacted. People have had to apply for their own jobs (assuming they want to stay), fund raisers (the team who are paid to enrol new...

Is it Cool to Ask for Bird Photos from Other Birders?

I have a friend who “borrows” her memory photos from twatter/X or faecesbook. Only for her personal use and not passed on to anyone. Her reasoning is that the picture is in the public domain and freely available. She tells me that she edits the picture so that the date matches her sighting and...

Binoculars for a 5 year old - recommendations please

I bought National Geographic children’s binoculars (7x30) for my 7 year old granddaughter. They feel robust and (importantly) she likes using them. I got them from Amazon.co.uk where they are currently unavailable. They were a little less the £30, so outside the scope of your search...

    Binocular recommendations???

OK, I have a couple of recommendations. Assuming you can get there, RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands on the Wirral sells binoculars and because the staff and volunteers don’t get any commission for sales - advice is free and unbiased. All the Visitor Centre staff and quite a few of the regular...

What is this on the ATS scopes?

I bought the 25-50x eyepiece with the 'scope body. I don’t know if I have looked through a 20-60 eyepiece

What is this on the ATS scopes?

I very occasionally use it (to get a particular tree in view, etc.) but it is mainly a gimmick.

What is this on the ATS scopes?

I've had my ATS80 for about 9 years. It might look vulnerable but I have used my ATS80 in the U.K., Europe, North and South America and the little sighting tube I’d still there and intact.

    Merlin Photo App limitations

I have just put a photograph of a Green-winged Teal seen in Cheshire on Wednesday into Merlin. It correctly identified the bird. Sorry, I understand that doesn’t answer your question.

    Birding Gifts For Christmas

darling daughter got me my traditional day to a page diary, this is where I do a brief write up (sometimes only a species list) of a birding day

    New Watcher New Binoculars

I volunteer at an RSPB reserve in Cheshire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We have a regular visitor who has a visible shake in his hands, not massive but visible. He has become a recent convert to image stabilised binoculars, due to age and his involuntary hand movements. Only in his late 70s. If you can’t get used...

Using spicy bird seed to deter squirrels

I bought a chilli spray, worked well when fresh but needed regular refreshing. It seems they tried the food, found it distasteful and left it alone. Worked on fat balls, seeds and peanuts. I noticed no ill effects on the (Grey) Squirrels in my garden.

    Advice needed!

I think your phrase "the chance to save £600" would probably overcome my 'try before you buy' principles too. Good Luck

    Advice needed!

My only advice (and I’m starting to sound like a broken record) is to go somewhere that you can try the various options side-by-side. Any reputable optics shop will be happy to help and let you take as much time as you need. Your bio says you are in Cambridge, must be places not too far away

    RSPB proposes cuts?

The picture from Dungeness only seems to show RSPB branded optics. The RSPB website and physical shops have the same pricing structure. The only advantage of buying at the shop is that you don’t have to wait for the product or worry that it might get damaged in transit. If I remember correctly...

    RSPB proposes cuts?

There was an announcement (via a Zoom meeting perhaps) yesterday to all RSPB staff. Hopefully the RSPB will follow up with an announcement to their army of volunteers and soon after the public.
