    Bee-eater East-Africa

Thanks, the first thread turned out quite useful and considering I'm just at the beginning of identifying birds on the photos from my trip, I'll definitely come back.

    Bee-eater East-Africa

Thanks for all the comments and discussion, learned a lot. Cinnamon panel on the wing is also visible on the book, but not emphasized as an important ID feature, so I missed it. Sorry for not posting the side image in a first place, but nobody really asked for it as well.

    Bee-eater East-Africa

I don't think there is anything wrong with colors, and I do not see what the amount of blue would change, because little blue above the mask can be present in all three candidates (according to my book at least). I have five more photos of the bird, also one from a side and not in direct sun...

    Bee-eater East-Africa

Ok, but does this leave the possibility for Cinnamon-chested open as well? White cheek edge is ok for it.

    Bee-eater East-Africa

Thanks for comments. Breast bands are also visible in the drawings on the book, but as not emphasized in the text, I couldn't tell how significant they are. Regarding the distribution map, also the ebird map for Blue-breasted does not show it where I saw it.

    Bee-eater East-Africa

Hi According to "Birds of East Africa (by Stevenson, Fanshawe)", I would ID this bird as Blue-breasted Bee-eater (significant feature being the white wedge on the cheek). However, the distribution map does not match my observation. The book is from 2003, though, so could be rather outdated...
