    Cattle Egret by an urban sewage outlet stream, during the freeze yesterday. Very surprising find and brilliant to pick up lifer whilst not even out birding

    Gull help needed

    I'm interested myself in this one, getting my head round 1st winter gulls as well. The bill says Caspian to me in structure but I think it should be all black. The head and neck looks to smudgy for casp to me though. I'd have to go for 1st winter Herring gull imo

    Lesser Scaup ?????

    Any photo's that give an idea of size? Lesser Scaup are very small, smaller than tufted duck for example. I agree with Greater Scaup from pic

    Wood sandpiper has been at Carr lane pools for a couple of weeks now, plus resident Egyptian goose and a possible Richard's pipit

    The apparent long legs of the bird is also good for Caspian. They're quite leggy.

    Not a long looking primary projection but I'm leaning more to willow warbler with that supercillium standing out so much and the dark looking cheeks.

    Have you heard the RB Goose is definitely escaped? I know that this has to be assumed but there's a possibility its wild however slim, as far as I know.

    Apart from size sounds ok for cormorant and size can be hard to judge without direct comparison. Apart from that hard to say.
