My thanks to you all Vicki , Delia and Stanley. Lets hope one day these beauties make a comeback across the UK eh. I hear the latest attempts to control the greys are the re introduction of pine martens to areas where they once thrived together with feeding peanuts containing a birth control...

Many thanks Kits and Daniel. I do try and warm to them and I succeeded with this one as it was away from gardens and its usual habits of stealing from the bird feeders.

    Blackbird (M) - Turdus merula

Not just a black bird it seems.

Eurasian Red Squirrel - Sciurus vulgaris

The UK's indigenous squirrel sadly now hard to find thanks to the wretched 'grey plague'. I'd stand any amount of these beauties on my feeders.

Many thanks Daniel. I must say I would be happier having our native reds visit me. The white squirrels sound lovely. We do have the odd colony of black ones in certain parts of the UK

White Admiral ( Ladoga camilla )

This butterfly is and always has been one of my favourites since a child when I only dreamt of seeing one for real. Now I have the chance to track them down they have not lost their appeal in the slightest and I look forward to seeing them every year if I am able.
  20. Kingdom of the Grasshopper.

    Kingdom of the Grasshopper.

I spotted this Meadow Grasshopper ( Chlorthippus parallelus ) sat viewing its realm looking as if it were on a podium about to deliver a speech to a rally or like a character from a Lewis Carroll novel.

    Ringlet - Aphantopus hyperantus

It took a while to not only follow one that landed but that actually landed where I could get a shot as most were choosing deep undergrowth to pitch on ! I had never noticed before how the 'eye' ring markings on the underside of the wings were in three groups of three until now either !
