    struggling with gulls

    Most of them are Black-headed Gulls, with some Common Gulls in the largest group. No Little Gulls. Careful use of a good fieldguide will let you sort them out, though the range of species and age plumages makes gulls one of the more difficult groups. Good luck.

    I would think about having a car for at least a couple of days and spending a night in the mountains at Oukamaiden for Crimson-winged Finch, Alpine Accentor, Atlas version of Shorelark, etc plus nice birding on the way up and down including Levaillant's Woodpecker and maybe Tristram's Warbler...

    Birding the South Atlantic from a large cruise ship

    This round Cape Horn Argentina to Chile cruise seems to be getting more popular with birders - Nick Bray is on the Princess Cruiselines version at the moment with a Zoothera group and his reports have included a masatierra Petrel on deck and Antipodean Albatrosses following the ship.

    A nice selection. In order; White-spectacled Bulbul, an all-black White-crowned Wheatear, Blackstart, White-crowned Wheatear. Blackstart again, White-crowned Wheatear again, Palestine Sunbird, two Blackstarts.

    February 6th 44. Cattle Egret - one flew SE at dusk, just like single Little Egrets often do. My first garden tick since last July when I added Ring-necked Parakeet. #110. A lot more frequent in the area than it was even two years ago so not much of a surprise but very welcome anyway.
