    My wife Elaine called me this afternoon to tell me the male sparrow Hawk was back perched on top of one of my feeders. I quickly got my camera and started taking some photographs. I thought the hawk was looking at something on the lawn and then a magpie flew up and perched right alongside it...

    Actually not so close, the bird was about 200M away from the hide but my D500 with Sigma 500mm prime pulled it in!

    OK, thanks, Ill go with the majority on this and relabel it bas a red throated Pipit although I just got a messaege from Briding Malta sying that they thought it was a meadow Pipit which was were I started out.

    Actually I have done some further research and think that it is not an american Pipit but a Siberian Buff-bellied Pipit Anthus r.japonicus, the asian race of the buff-bellied pipit, comparing pictures online my bird seems to be a perfect fit and this race of Buff bellied Pipit is a migrant...

    Actuall Delia, Ive been doing some research and I too dont think its an american Buff bellied pipit but its an exact fit for a Siberian Buff-bellied Pipit which is a rare visitor to the middle East and therefore quite likely to pass through Malta. Siberian Buff-bellied Pipit Anthus r.japonicus

    This bird seems identical to one reported on the Rare birds site in Cheshire, However I took this picture in St Pauls Bay, Malta last week. Others have ID it as a BuffBellied/American Pipit, initially I thought it was a meadow Pipet but having compared photographs I am comming to the conclusion...
