Sadly writing this in the comfort of my living room back home in Leicestershire :( Thanks Mike for your help and to anyone else we might have bumped into at Albufera. My lad tells me we saw around 60 species during our stay and some lifers for us both. We all agreed the Pratincole was our star...

Hi. We saw a small songbird yesterday that we haven't been able to id. It was singing / calling 2m or so above the scrub and was almost hovering. Every time it "cheeped" its wings fluttered. We thought possibly Cisticola but unsure. The habitat was scrub in the edge of a lake. Does anyone have...

There has been a regular osprey around the north east corner of Albufera too. It doesn't seem to have been put off by the weather too much. Whinchat yesterday in our hotel grounds plus 2 hoopoes. Masses of Hirundines too but not seen any red rumped swallows either.

Hadn't realised until I read the posts on here that red knobbed coot was a separate species. Will start looking more closely at the coots from now on. Hoping to head over to Boquer and LA Gola tomorrow. Tom

Walked down to Albufera this morn. Great reed warbler and collared pratincole were new for us. Hello to the Port Vale fan if that is anyone from here. Nice to meet you. Tom (father of Leicester fan!)

Delighted to find our room overlooks the North east corner of Albufera. Already ticked off b-w stilt, avocet and a cracking Woodchat shrike that lives in the scrub outside. Also overflying night heron and cattle egrets. Also made it into the pool :) Tom. H

Counting the hours until Sunday morning when we fly out. I gather it is warming up a bit? Been great reading about what is around, especially at Albufera as our hotel is right next to it. Collared Pratincole is on my sons hit list. Are these at Albufera? Maybe see some of you there. Happy...
