That is one hell of a shot Adrian. Well done! Tony

Question What is the biggest Eagle in the world

The questioner asked which is the worlds largest eagle. I say the Steller's to which you seem to confirm in wingspan and weight. I would add overall length but, as you state, there are other measurements where large forest eagles are superior, more especially power, however the largest remains...

Question What is the biggest Eagle in the world

Having seen the skins at the Natural History annex at Tring whilst assisting in re-classification, and had experience of the real (live) thing, I am in no doubt in my mind that the Stellers is the largest by measurement but the average Harpy is the heavier and much more powerful with the...
  4. Shorteared Owl

    Shorteared Owl

Unusual to see a Shorteared Owl this early at home. He must have been on his way back from the North Wales roost to his beeding area in Pembrokeshire.

    Amazing Goshawk pics

It is a fully mature adult, no question about it.

Leigh is quite correct I'm afraid. The tail, short toes and thick ankles give it away as do other markings. I am fortunate to be able to see merlins whenever I want to in my area of West Wales.

That has to be among the best yet. I am giving even more thought to giving up!! I have taken the liberty of informing the owner of the pigeon of his loss from information on the racing ring !! Tony

Hello Leigh - why are Devon buzzards so scruffy when compared with those from here in West Wales? Tee Hee!!! Tony;)

Great Peregrine, great shot using a great camera and lens. It reminds me of a George Lodge painting, and he was the greatest. Tony

Hello, The bird is obviously heavily in moult and has recently lost primaries from 5 to 7 which gives the wings a very non kestrel appearance. The longer primaries don't seem to have fully grown either. I presume you have asked the question because of the odd looking wing conformation. Tony
  11. The Wag Wife

    The Wag Wife

I have noticed with my resident Pied Wagtails that the female visits the nest with food three times to the males once, but he takes more food each time.
  12. Agricultural Wagtail

    Agricultural Wagtail

My resident Pied Wagtails have decided to have their second brood under the bonnet of my little tractor. The irony of this is that I was about to use it to dig out a pond in my garden, which would have brought some insects closer to home. I note the Damsel Fly as the chicks next meal. He...

    Two Swallow Generations

Note the ravages of faecal sac removal on the bill of the adult bird. The first brood youngsters are roosting within six feet of the second brood in a new nest.

This is definately a Kestrel and probably an immature Common Kestrel with markings on wing coverts a variation to the area. They are certainly not as commonly found in Western Europe. I adore Kestrels and bred them in large nombers in the 1960/70's and this is a charming shot. T.

    Decorous camouflage

This is believed to be a Buzzard fledged in 2003 that was brought to me weighing no more than a blown up paper bag. I fed it up and taught it to fight for natural local prey available and 'hacked it back' as soon as was possible. He continued to return for short periods and would take food...

No doubt you have noticed the X-Ray effect of the wing bones and even the joints. You must have the lighting and exposure about right!! Amazing. Tony

Cracking shot. Unusual to see overgrown beak and wing-tip damage in wild peregrines.

She looks like a female house Sparrow to me (Passer domesticus). What is more interesting is what she has in her beak? Anyway, she looks thoroughly cheesed off. Tony

    Fledged Swallows

The youngsters had been out for a spin and back in to avoid a shower.

    Early Swallow Brood

Rather a crowded nest of swallows that are much earlier to fledge than others on the farm.

You found me! If it wasn't for the orange on the beak (underside view?), couldn't it be a Garden Warbler? I agree, it doesn't look right for a Chiff-Chaff. Tony
