    Just started phonescoping

That looks very nice. I'm aware the phone's not the best, so I'll probably have to upgrade. I'm currently using a Gitzo tripod at the moment. In fact I'm trying to decide whether to sell my Canon 600 IS USM as it's not really practical for me to take both out into the field. I have been clasping...

I have an iphone 6 and I use the Kowa phone adaptor for it.

Getting enough light into the scope seems to be the biggest issue.

    Just started phonescoping

I got a Kowa 883 scope just before lockdown so have only started being able to test it over the last two weeks. It’s incredibly hard to get photos but I’m having a little success with video. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are there are good deals on the KOWA TSN-883 at the mo?

Lol. Scope turned up and we’ve gone into lockdown. That was a waste of money.

    Digiscoping with Kowa 883

I am interested in digiscoping too. I’ve just ordered a 883 and am waiting for it to turn up. I have a canon 600mm usm is but I’m not sure how practical it will be to have both in the field, so was planning to maybe move over to digiscoping.

Are there are good deals on the KOWA TSN-883 at the mo?

I purchased from Ace. Looking forward to getting out and enjoying Longham Lakes.

It takes me a long time to commit to something!

Are there are good deals on the KOWA TSN-883 at the mo?

Thinking of getting one of these for the new year but I'm not too sure the best place to buy. Ace Optics seems to have 7% off at mo, but I don't know if historically there are better deals early January.

    Scotland advice

A few people have said that now. I will of course update once I get back. It's still a while away yet and I'm already looking at next year's options if I don't see eagles.

    Scotland advice

Right, I've booked my trip through Heatherlea, ordered my book off Gordon and will have three solid days of birding via pinewoods, moorland, stornaway and the moray coast. I'm unlikely to see Capercallie, but the eagles are a possibility and the crested tits visit the hotel's feeders. I don't...

    Scotland advice

That's a pity but not the end of the world. It's the sea eagles I'd really like to see so I'm trying to work out if I should take a trip with my wife and daughter to Mull or just try this trip. https://www.heatherlea.co.uk/birdwatching-holidays-new-short-breaks-scottish-birding-in-early-autumn

    Scotland advice

Hi there, I've been a bit despondent lately and I'm hoping to get back into my birding/photography which I've not done for a good year. I'm hoping to kickstart things by taking a trip to Scotland as I've never been and as I'm a relative novice, there are plenty of birds including divers, skuas...

Kowa 883. Black Friday sales likely?

I thought that might be the case. Many thanks.

Kowa 883. Black Friday sales likely?

I got a nice bonus at work and feel like investing in a scope. I know the Kowa is excellent, but I was wondering if it's likely to be cheaper in the run up to Black Friday. Do companies offer you a discount if you agree to pay it all off up front?

    Alighting Great White Egret

I've removed a little brush in the bottom right corner as it was distracting. Taken last year at my local patch, Longham Lakes.

    Good processing pics for sharpness

Thanks, some interesting stuff there. I took some photos of some bearded reedlings the other day but I'm not massively happy with them. I'll post them up later tonight if I remember.

    Good processing pics for sharpness

I do shoot in Raw, thanks :) It was one of the first recommendations made to me when I started taking pictures and it makes a huge difference :)

    Good processing pics for sharpness

Both of those are probably cropped by 40-50 per cent of the original image I reckon. Also all the other shots were probably less than 16 feet away, which probably helps as well.

    Good processing pics for sharpness

I guess what I mean then is do the above shots look sharp enough. I think they're okay, but I always feel I should be getting more detail out of my lens than I should.

    Good processing pics for sharpness

I've been tinkering around in lightroom 5 and I feel my shots are never quite sharp enough. Does anyone have some good universal settings they use? In general I tend to whack shadows up to around 50-80 on the slider, go for masking of around 70, detail of around 80 and sharpness of 50. I'll...
