Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

I don't see any big differences between either. They look about the same to me.

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

It all depends on how you use your binoculars. If you use your binoculars in open coastal areas in Scotland with lots of sun like you do, a 32 mm is fine, but if you use your binoculars in heavy woodland or under canopy like in the Monteverde Rainforest of Costa Rica a 40 mm or 42 is...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

I see a very slight green tint on the binocular on the left and a marked green tint on the binocular on the right.

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

My point is being careful of the self fulfilling prophecy. Just because the SFL is less expensive than the SF, doesn't automatically mean the CA is not going to be as good. It is like assuming a Ferrari is going to be faster than Tesla Plaid because it cost more. It is not always the case.

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

It is a mistake to assume that because the SFL is less expensive than the SF that Zeiss used cheaper glass in it, and it is going to have more CA. The SFL is an $1800 binocular, and I am sure Zeiss used very high quality glass in it. The only noticeable advantage I can see between the SFL and SF...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

Are you comparing the SFL 10x40 to the SF 8x32 or 8x42? Higher magnification always shows more CA than lower magnification. I found the CA to be at least equal on the SFL 8x40 to the SF 8x32, and so did Binomania in their review...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

The SFL is 1.4 oz. heavier, but the SFL is 1/2 shorter than the SF 8x32 and just slightly wider. Let me tell you, the 40 mm aperture is a HUGE advantage in low light and comfort with much easier eye placement. The biggest advantage of the SFL over the SF though is the truer colors. It is almost...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

I really think there are going to be a lot of birders trading in their SF 8x42's and Conquest HD 8x32's once they try the SFL 8x40. The only advantage I see the SF 8x42 has over the SFL 8x40 is a 25 foot larger FOV, and then you have to deal with a much bigger, bulkier, heavier binocular without...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

You're correct, the SFL could have better CA control than the alpha's. In fact, I honestly think they do, but I didn't want to get hung out to dry.

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

It sounds like they were very impressed with the SFL. They agree with me that the CA on the SFL is about the same as the alpha's. The NL Pure looks like it still has the glare problems I experienced with diffuse light when I had mine. "The new Zeiss SFL 8 × 40 is a great product, it will cost...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

"SFL has clearer colours than SF32, e.g. the white is cleaner, but SF32 has better contrast and of course a monster fov." "Also, SFL's colour reproduction is beautiful, and some folks may prefer it to SF, while others may prefer the slimmer tubes of SF32." "But to address your query about the...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

I notice that also. Anytime you are under canopy or in a heavily wooded forest, the bigger aperture 40 mm will outperform the smaller aperture 32 mm. If you bird, for example under the canopy in Costa Rica, you definitely want the 40 mm versus the 32 mm. Most peoples eye's will at least dilate...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

Do you notice much difference in eye placement comfort between the SF8x32 and the SFL 8x40? The bigger exit pupil is supposed to be one of the big advantages of the SFL because of the better eye placement comfort. So for your uses you prefer the SF 8x32 over the SFL8x40 for daytime use and if...

Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

Thanks! I know many of you are waiting for my "definitive" review before you commit to buying an SFL. As soon as they become available in the US, I will definitely try them. Has anybody seen any US dealers that have them in stock yet?
