Saw a blackpoll or black and white warbler for just a moment near Houston TX. The bird climbed on a branch and proceeded to climb to the side of the branch and then hang upside down for a bit on the other side of the branch. There was a clear contrast between black on head and white on head and...

Sedge Wren? 40 miles north of Houston

Saw a small wren with a short tail in a wet meadow. It made a sort of chipping noise I think. It had some white streaking on back and buffy sides but a white throat. I did not notice anything else about the bird. Is this a Sedge Wren? Also could be Marsh wren (but very unlikely) or maybe winter...

Should I count this as a Forster's Tern? Lake Conroe, Texas, USA, January 19, 2025.

Oh and also I have ruled out Caspian's tern. It could not have been that due to wingspan

Should I count this as a Forster's Tern? Lake Conroe, Texas, USA, January 19, 2025.

I saw a tern diving over Lake Conroe while in a car and birdwatching. Due to my distance from the tern and its location, I was unable to identify it or take a photo. My question: Should I count this as a Forster's Tern since they are the ONLY terns that have ever be seen at this time of year...

Song Sparrow or Lincoln's Sparrow? 40 miles north of Houston, TX. NO PICTURE, description only.

Saw a sparrow in a lakeside thicket, eye ring immediately evident, no central breast spot, pretty thin streaking on breast. Calls seem to match up with Lincoln's sparrow and not at all with song sparrow. Sparrow appeared somewhat delicate with a rather broad gray supercillum. Song sparrow or...

Sharp-shinned Hawk? No picture, 50 miles north of Houston, TX.

Saw a falcon size bird take off from a tree. At first thought it was a falcon but knew it was a hawk by wing tips. Followed the bird for a while, noted that it was maybe a little bigger or smaller than a Merlin, saw squarish tail, brown back, probably streaks on breast. Can anybody identify this...

    Eastern or Western Meadowlark?

Did not get a picture or an audio unfortunately. Only heard song once and it was too hidden in the grass for me to get a photo.

    Eastern or Western Meadowlark?

Saw a meadowlark in the long grass at our house which is 20 miles north of Cleveland TX. Could not identify by looks but heard a three or 4 note clear, liquid, whistled song. Can anybody positively identify this as an Eastern or Western Meadowlark?

    Key West, Florida Buteo sp

Wow, this is a really hard ID. I am still unsure what the bird is; whether or not it is a short-tailed or red-shouldered hawk. It may even be a broad-wing but that is not as likely. Could somebody else help?

    Key West, Florida Buteo sp

In what habitat did you see the bird?
  22. L

    Key West, Florida Buteo sp

Most likely not a Broad-winged Hawk; the bird lacks dark barring on the chest and a thick tail band. Instead, the bands on the tail are thinner. Still could be a Red-shouldered Hawk; I'll get back to you with more info a little later.

Hungarian Partridges are also called Gray partridges; they're the same bird.

Northern Great Plains (USA) - Gray Partridge or Sharp-tailed Grouse

Probably a Gray Partridge at least by call. They make this call when flushed. Also Sharp-tailed Grouse are usually not found in groups exceeding ten birds. I don't know about the tail tho.
