    Eyecup positions - a solution.

Not really. They are more likely to move than when set to a click-stop.

    Eyecup positions - a solution.

Absolutely. As long as you get that position, every kind of spacer works perfectly :) I thought the 3D-prints look rather neat for eyecups that need to stay further out (if you don't print it grey ;) ).

    Eyecup positions - a solution.

They were a test-piece made out of some grey filament I had lying around. I thought I'd show these here as they contrast the binocular and are easily visible ^^

    Eyecup positions - a solution.

I got a bit frustrated with the eyecup-positions available on some Zeiss models. One position would be too far out for a full, immersive experience, the next lower one too far down and result in kidney beans. I've heard others complain about the same issue, across various brands (some brands fit...

Question for long time Noctivid owners

My NV has the TINIEST little bit of play when changing directions. It's so little that it's hard to tell it's there. The focuser is otherwise incredibly smooth, light and accurate. My Zeiss SF is also very nice but in a very different way. It feels more like I'm actually moving parts against...

Roger Vine's review of the Swarovski NL 14x52

Of course, if detail is what you're about. I thought more of relaxed, big bino observation where the SLC 15x56 might be a king who has to share his crown now ^^ I once had one, but used it too little. The 14x52 felt just like it, but better and lighter with more FOV. Sorry for not being clear. :)

Roger Vine's review of the Swarovski NL 14x52

Treated myself to a NL 12x42 a while ago and love the thing to bits for waders/ducks far out/raptors. I tested the 14x52, too (outside my shop of choice that lets you spend a LOT of time with the toys ouside ^^). I found it really impressive, but JUST a bit too much in every aspect for my kinda...

Everyones most desired or dream bird species?

Cool thread, so interesting to see what others want to see! I think for me it's the eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum) and the scops owl (Otus scops). I know where to find them, heard both, never had the pleasure to see either. Wish me luck for this year ^^

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Oooook! :) I can finally report back to all of you about my SF. So Zeiss replaced the objective lens of the "green" side. They also explained that they normally wouldn't change slightly differently colored lenses, as it is normal (as you all suggested and I also suspected) to have minimal...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Ooook, another little update. I got a call from the shop that they had response from Zeiss. (They had sent them photos and a description of the case) Zeiss wrote (based on the photos) that they had never seen such an extreme difference in color in objective coatings and asked if it was...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

I don't see any difference in color reproduction. If Zeiss decides that this is all within specs and perfectly normal, I wouldn't really be bothered too much about it, also thanks to the reassuring comments of some other folks here. I guess I'd just accept having a very quirky bino XD If they...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Thanks again for your answers! By the way, here are the reflections in daylight: I wanted to give all of you a little update: I happened to pass through the city where the shop I got the binos is located and decided to ask them for advice, too. They were very kind and checked some other...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Haha yes, windows are always dangerous for image quality. Even open windows, as inside- and outside-air can mix and create heatwaves. I checked my other binos in a dark-ish room with a bright light and albeit showing some kinds of flares and reflections, none showed perfect mirrored images of...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Do your SF's show the same characteristics or might my pair be faulty? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to bring them back if all of this stuff is normal and to be expected. Thanks again for all your helpful replies!

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Also, looking through the tubes from the wrong side, doesn't show a perfect circle but has two "steps" (where baffles overlap?): Coincidently, (marked in blue) there seems to be a reflective surface right in the position where the bright reflections I mentioned in my previous post occur. (The...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Thanks for the replies, I'll ask Zeiss about the very different coating colours, I guess. It seems my bino's got heterochromia... XD There also seems to be no connection between the coatings and the ghosts: Upon further inspection of the "ghosts" I found out, that the binos apparently produce a...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

Hi lovely bino-people! I need some help regarding a pair of Victory SF 8x42 I recently purchased. I was watching some deer in dusk, when suddenly some strange reflection occured, like some kind of ghost of some branches the evening skyglow was coming through. I could only produce it in one of...

Which ones are your dream binoculars?

I think you have a point here, the "problem" might be that even low- to mid-level bins have gotten pretty decent. Simply no need to spend huge amounts of money for a pleasurable experience, especially on a product that kind of lost it's "cool"-status in the digital age. Your note about sharing...

The bird that made your day...

Lately, I had this nice thing where birds appear when I want to show them to friends ^^ It all started when one evening after work (I work as a rope park guide in the mountains as a side-job), when I sat in front of the cabin with my boss and good friend, enjoying a beer after the day's work and...

That is truly heartwarming! Happy to hear the little blackbird made your bad day a little better and hope you're doing well now!

The bird that made your day...

Thehe, yeah, non-birders can be quite confused by us... XD I had similar stories of reluctantly following a group away from a great birding spot... Only to randomly find great birds along the way where I wouldn't have expected them ^^ I guess if the universe decides you should see birds, you...

The bird that made your day...

Got the idea for this thread the other day, when conditions weren't that great and I was a little bummed, not sighting anything besides some tits, the odd thrush and a little kestrel in the distance. Now, I like these birds and take great joy watching them, but this day, even those were quite...

Which ones are your dream binoculars?

Where I live, I think it is not too uncommon for people to have bins (I live in the mountainous northern part of Switzerland). But, and a big BUT that is, most of them have a pair of compacts or small-ish bins they aren't too specific about when buying. They simply want something to magnify...

Which ones are your dream binoculars?

Oooooh, late to the party but stumbled upon this thread and started dreaming... Here are my suggestions, as kind of a Swaro-guy, these are gonna be a bit Swaro-heavy, I hope you don't mind ;) Imagine a "supercharged" Swaro Habicht. Porro, but internal, buttery smooth focusing. Latest and...
