    Stop The Severn Barrage!

Apparently the residents of the Bay of Fundy voted against a similar scheme. As some one who lives within 50 yards of the Severn it would seem obvious to me that the area would clog with silt very quickly. Other considerations are the increased height of the tides down river from the barage...

    List website

To list or not to list. I have found a new and useful website http://www.bubo.org/listing/ where you can calculate and publish your UK/Scottish/Welsh/English/UK county life or year lists using BOU/UK 400/ BIRDWATCH magazine formats with dates and location. A more useful system than used by...

    Getting to Scilly cheaply

Buying two day return tickets for £36 each in advance and only using them them for "single" trips would "only" cost £72, a saving of twenty quid on the standard return. Has anyone tried this and how could they stop anyone trying. From memory they do not check the names of boarding passengers or...

    Leach's Petrels

Leach's quite often appear here at Severn beach in winter gales, infact we expect them but usually in smaller numbers. The last time we got into double figures was back in 1989 and one of the features I remember from then was how "tatty" most of the birds were. A lot of this weeks birds are...

Non-Birders sightings that make you go "AAARGH!!!"

I don't know if it is true or fair to decribe the finder as a non birder, of a bird back in November 1994, in a tree at Eastilville Park in Bristol. Had I received the call would have dismissed the description as a Siskin or a Greenfinch. The finder was sure that it was something more...

    Severnside Birds photo quiz

Bleadon/ Bleadon Levels is not in the local patch. Bleadon is 25 miles away and recently famed for the appearance of a reintroduced Great Bustard. Number 6 is therfore not the Great Bustard. The local patch is only a 6 mile coastal strip from the original/old Severn Bridge at Aust towards...
