Zeiss Conquest HD 8x42 v Opticron Aurora 8x42

Why do some manufacturers have the focus to infinity CCW but most CW? I'm sure CW must more intuitive than CCW (as far as I recall all my previous models since a kid including Opticron were CW.)

Arca swiss compatible Tripod head for birding with single control for pan/tilt/locking

Hi ibrown44. You won't find many (any) single actions heads like the PH157Q. I've used one for 30+ years and once tried switching to a Manfrotto fluid head but could not get on with all the faff of one release for up and down, one for side to side and then still needing to focus so sold it soon...

    Swarovski 8x32EL (1st version) v Zeiss Conquest/Victory

Thanks Dennis. Was very interested in where the EL compared so appreciate the feedback. I won't be rushing off to buy an EL!

    Swarovski 8x32EL (1st version) v Zeiss Conquest/Victory

Just interested in what user's view are on the original Swaroski 8x32 EL v either Zeiss Victory T*FL 8x32 or Conquest 8x32?

Any bag recommendations for a P900 - preferably toploader?

My mate and I both use LowePro Toploader below for P900 and find it perfect. I added a quick click workmans belt for ease and flexibility of taking it on and off. I tend to wear camera would waist and sat on hip for quick access while birding. It has a front pocket for spare battery and card...

Possibility of bird guide, Hurghada, Egypt, October

I have a completely family orientated holiday (beach, pools, snorkelling!) in Hurghada booked for October this year but would like to take to opportunity for any dedicated days birding if possible. I know I can get a few new birds from the hotel grounds/beach (i.e. Sooty Gull, maybe Nile Valley...

Contact East Coast Binocular Repairs, registered UK Zeiss repair centre, and they'll send you replacements (and even the deeper ones if, like me you prefer those)

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

Thanks Dennis...I would say though that my Swarovski and Leica don't need any work to get crispness...straight there...tried all three together today and the Conquest was def more effort

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

I didn't approach Leica as assumed they would be well out of warranty (it's so long ago that I bought them that I cannot even remember !) but maybe I will do and see what they say/suggest

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

The image in the 10x42 did not have the ease of view/crispness that came so easily with the 8x32. It was more 'work' to get things in focus compared to my other 10x42's mentioned in this thread.

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

So I moved from my long standing Leica HD 10x42 to Swarovski EL FP 10x42 last year. I kept the Leica's as back up pair but now find the focus is 'sticky' and not smooth enough for my liking even having been serviced at East Coast Bin Repairs. So as you'll see from Classifieds intended to sell...

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

This was actually why I started the thread! I love the Conquest HD 8x32 but am currently trying a Conquest HD 10x42 and not as impressed with the image quality hence my question.

    Best sub £1000 10x42 binocular

Appreciate that 'best' is subjective and personal which I know will become apparent with responses! But was wondering what 10x42 people rate in this bracket?

Is binocular depth of field in focus variable?

Thanks Lee/Dennis. It must be as you say and artefact of the contrast levels. An interesting experience.

Is binocular depth of field in focus variable?

Thank you for bringing this back to subject Dennis. Annoying to see it hijacked by irrelevant agenda by post 3. I was comparing Swarovsk EL FPro v an original grey Zeiss SF. So both alpha. As you note that there should be no DOF difference, it was surprising that the Zeiss felt like less was in...

Is binocular depth of field in focus variable?

I was comparing two different 10 x 42 binoculars today and there seemed, to my eyes, to be a slight difference in the depth of field in focus between the two in so far as more depth of the image seemed the be crisper between one make and the other. Is that possible if both are a 10 x 42? And if...

    Zeiss SF 10x42 dissection

Just interested. What are the differences between the original grey SF and the newer black ones (apart from the colour obviously!)
