    Frog Spawn Disaster

The frogspawn in the pond this year seemed to just melt away after a couple of weeks. The outer jelly layer dissolved leaving hundreds of little half formed black embryos to drift about under the water. Last time I looked was on Thursday afternoon, and there was nothing left to see. Last years...

    tapwater in ponds during drought

It hasn't rained much here in the North East of England recently, and as a result the garden pond level has dropped about four inches over the past few weeks. I read somewhere that it was ok to top up your pond in times of drought with a hosepipe. Would the chlorine in the tap water be harmful...

    Green Damsel Nymph

Does anyone know why this nymph is green as a pose to the usual brown ones I keep finding? Is it a different sp. or has it changed colour to match the blanket weed it is living in? BTW yesterday I saw one which had blue and black stripes visible, clearly ready to emerge soon.

    Dragonflies of Durham

Can anyone ID these for me? The smaller brown ones where scattering eggs on the pond surface, but the large green and brown one was laying eggs in moss on a rock, which was quite a way from the water. How do the nymphs get in the pond once hatched? Thanx

    Collared Dove Noises

When a collared dove takes off, I have noticed they make a repeated whistling type noise for a couple of seconds. What I was wondering was, are they making this noise with their vocal chords, or is it perhaps air being forced through the wing feathers and vibrating ? Any ideas?
