Canon R3 or Canon R5 for bird photography?

WildPhotographer, you are spot on with your assessment. I have found the same to be very true going back decades. rpg51 also makes a valid point. Some of my own experiences and background: I began my photography journey with my first real camera around 1980 with a Pentax K1000. I won't...

    Hermit or Bicknell's Thrush?

I'm new to this and I don't keep logs or anything like that. I do this for the love of photography more so than birding. However, the Audubon book I have makes it difficult for me to tell if which species it is.

    Hermit or Bicknell's Thrush?

Photographs were taken on 11/24/2021 in a wooded area in southern, Rhode Island along the coast. Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown, RI. From the markings, I think it is a Hermit. The folks I were with seemed more excited about this bird than the Snowy Owl that hangs out along the coast this...

Wild of course, two on the RI coast. Hung out at Sachuest Beach for around five hours to capture these images.

    Considering giving up on digiscoping

Hi Scott, These look pretty good knowing they come from a phone with a scope. If you'd like to try and email me the raw files I'd be willing to run them through DxOPureRaw and edit them with Topaz Labs Sharpen AI? My Samsung Ultra S21 can shoot in true RAW. Not a lot of phones can do that...

    Considering giving up on digiscoping

The RF 800 is impressive for the size, weight, and cost considering the image quality. F11 does present lighting challenges, but I don't see any issues with sharpness due to diffraction without the 1.4 or 2.0. The images with the 2.x (f/22) are soft, I'm sure from diffraction let alone the...

    Considering giving up on digiscoping

Thanks for contributing to the discussion Figge, great images too. I hope to do some nature travel as I get closer to retirement and definitely will once I do retire. I really want to do one of the Alaska Grizzly shoots I described earlier. It sounds like you've had some fantastic adventures...
