    looks like a male Paradise Shelduck (Tadorna variegata - new zealnd origin, often kept in wildfowl collections) - somewhat tragic name for that individual

    Everytime i think about passenger pigeons it pisses me off big time, a horrendous record of foolishness/ignorance/belligerence of immigrants in north america and the pigeon wasn't their only 'victim' either

    Even allowing for artistic licence, i can't see an artist giving a roller a huge white eye-ring. The look of a Roller is quite the opposite of a wide open expression like this bird, in part due to the dark/black surround of the eye. I can't see an artist, no matter how artistic he's being doing...
