Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

The NL 8x32 has a bigger FOV and sharper edges than the Meostar 8x32, but actually the optical quality is pretty close. It is amazing how changing the eye cups can transform a binocular. I wish you could change eye cups on other binoculars. For example, put some bigger diameter eye cups on the...

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

The edges on Meostar are actually pretty sharp, and it has a 8 degree FOV, but it feels wider than the SFL 8x40. Meostar's are superb glass for the money.

Maybe that is how nature protects it. Nobody will mess with it.

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

No, since I got the Leica Ultravid eye cups from Leica to fit over their small eyepieces, it completely transformed them. I am keeping them now. They are SFL killers.

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

I will tell you a secret. I had the Zeiss SFL 8x42 at the same time as the Meopta Meostar B1 Plus 8x32 and if you put Leica Ultravid 10x42 eye cups which you can get from Leica for $6 on the Meostar it is just as good as the Zeiss, except for maybe 15 minutes before sundown, when the bigger...

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

I have been hunting in the backwoods since I was knee high to a grasshopper. We laughed at "guides". They are for the rich city folk that don't know what they are doing or where they are. HaHa.

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

Very good post and I agree! Dorubird you have a deep understanding of binoculars. Very impressive. I can tolerate a smaller AFOV also if the edges are more defined, and I prefer the Leica Trinovid 8x20 BCA over the Zeiss Victory 8x25 for the same reason. In fact, I have the Trinovid as my...

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

"I would suspect that many members would prefer giving up a slight amount of FOV in order to have a bino that handles glare and colors better. I know I would." That helps me wrap my head around why you would tolerate a smaller FOV. You give up quantity for quality. Got it. It is just every time...

Bugs up close kind of scare me. I looked at a dragonfly once, and it looked like a 747 in flight!

Ok. That helps you like the Leica for other attributes it has, like close focus and saturated colors. I get it, better.

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

I never realized the Leica Trinovid HD 8x32 had a 1-meter close focus. That is good if you do close observing like you do, but I really don't do that. The 2-meter close focus of the NL is generally enough for my uses. I still can't wrap my head around why you would want a smaller FOV because...

Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars?

I never really cared for the SE. I always found it to be too finicky for eye placement. I would prefer a huge FOV like the E2 has even with smeary edges over a smaller FOV with sharp edges, but I what I REALLY like is a huge FOV with sharp edges. Only the NL gives me that.
