What do you think about the focus wheel and diopter on the EDG?

Under the warranty? 🙂 The warranty is (if I remember correctly) only 10 years in Europe/Sweden. I bought my EDG for about 11,5 years ago.

    New Genesis Models?

I agree about the focuser. It may be a sample variation, but on my Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 the focuser is perfect (fast and smooth but not to smooth...even in freezy conditions). I also like the fact that the wheel is rather big/long and it gives a good grip. Also the placement of the focus wheel is...

What do you think about the focus wheel and diopter on the EDG?

I have the EDG II. Just checked when I bought it..and it was earlier than I thought it was (October 2011). I bought it new. My sample has the serial number 3004XX.

What do you think about the focus wheel and diopter on the EDG?

I have had my Nikon EDG 8x42 since 2013, I think..and like it very much. But two things I do not like and have had real issues with is the diopter and the focus wheel. Sometime the focus wheel is nice, but other times it is to light, to stiff or gritty. But the biggest problem is that it...

    Fingering NL

I had a lot of trouble to hold the Swarro NL in a good way. That was one of some things that I did not like with the NL binocular. I have the Nikon EDG since 2011, but I have now also bought the Kowa Genesis 8,5x44. The Kowa bino is perfect to focus with four (!) fingers.

Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 compared to Nikon EDG and Swarovski SLC...

The EDG did not come back in the same way, but the problems I had (loose hinge, creeping diopter and loose armoring) got rather soon worse again. I think Nikon EDG is a fantastic binocular, but to me the Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 is in the same class as the EDG. I just think they have different...

Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 compared to Nikon EDG and Swarovski SLC...

And I am a little bit surprised about your comment if you have not tried the Kowa Genesis 8,5x44... :) To me it is in another league than Zeiss Conquest HD. If you look at the "optical points" I gave to Nikon and Kowa you see that Nikon get higher points in some categories; sweetspot...

Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 compared to Nikon EDG and Swarovski SLC...

I have the latest..the EDG with one bridge (EDG II). Yes, I also think that the Kowa Genesis will get a little stiffer in cold weather, but the focuser is larger, have better grip and is more reliable than the focuser on the Nikon EDG..so I think that the focuser of the Kowa will still feel much...

Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 compared to Nikon EDG and Swarovski SLC...

I have the EDG 8x42. When the focus wheel on my EDG works it is silky smooth, but when its cold it become stiff. Sometimes it goes from smooth to have a little play..and sometimes it happens that the wheel "go up" so the "diopter wheel" is exposed. There is also a risk that the diopter setting...

    8x42 NL image circle

My experience is the same with the NL 8x42. I do not know how to hold it in my hands in a good way and I had difficult with eye placement. Of all Swarovski binoculars I prefer the SLC I have to say.

Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 compared to Nikon EDG and Swarovski SLC...

I have now tried the Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 at home for about two weeks and I really like it. It took some days to find the right diopter setting, but now when I have done that all became clear that it is a very nice binocular. Actually the best binocular I have ever used. Compared to Nikon EDG...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

I think that our eyes often get used to the optics we use over time. The Kowa Genesis optical design feels more and more natural to me and even if the optics in the Kowa has some drawbacks (like soft edges and maybe also a little bit less central sharpness than the Nikon EDG) is has some strong...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

After some more hours of birding with the Kowa I changed the diopter setting back to -1...and the image is still fine. Maybe it's just my eyes which now have got used to the optical design of the Kowa 8,5x44. To sum it up..the Kowa handles well with nice balance and great focus wheel, colors are...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

It seems like the problem with a feel of looking thrue a dented window/glass was caused by wrong diopter setting. I just changed the diopter to +1 instead of -1 or -2 that I initially thought was the right settings. Now the image is much more "calm" and not so strange than before. Earlier it was...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

So...I have now tried the Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 for a couple of hours. First impressions was not good at all! It felt like I looked thrue a dented window. I think I'm so used to the Nikon EDG 8x42 with field flatternes that the optical design in the Kowa feels very strange. The sharpness of the...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

I hope I will get my Kowa Genesis 8,5x44 delivered today (otherwise tomorrow). If the eye-relief on the Kowa only is a little bit worse than the Nikon EDG 8x42 they should work fine with my new "thicker" spectacles, I think.

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

I am going to keep my Nikon EDG even if I buy the Kowa Genesis, but it is nice with new things and the extra 0,5 magnification is also nice when the scope is left at home. I have my old spectacles with new/updated glass laying around at home, so if the Kowa Genesis does not work with my new...

    Using Kowa 8,5x44 with spectacles..?!

I have owned a Kowa 8,5x44 for many years ago, but sold it and bought a Nikon EDG 8x42 instead. But I have now bought a Kowa 883 and today I ordered the Kowa 8,5x44 to pair with the 883-scope. But since I owned the Kowa 8,5x44 for some years ago I have changed my spectacles that is both bigger...

    883

I have not star tested my speciman of 883, but I did compare it against my old Nikon Fieldscope ED82 that I know is a very nice and sharp one. I have had hard to say which one of them is the best scope. Sometimes I feel the 883 is the sharpest of the two and sometimes I think the Nikon ED82 is...

    883

I owned a Kowa 883 for some years ago, but didn't use it much. Can't remember how optically good that speciman was. I sold it after a couple of months. For three years ago I ordered a new speciman of the Kowa 883, but it was not good enough for me at high powers (50-60x). The ordered a third...

Buying a new scope (Kowa 883 or Nikon Monarch ED82)...

I agree. If the Nikon Fieldscope ED82 have had the "same" zoom eyepiece as the Kowa 883 has..I would never have changed it for the Kowa. I will not sell the Nikon though. The Nikon ED82 scope is brilliant and more contrasty than the Kowa 883. The Kowa seems to be a little bit "flat"..or not so...

    Monarch 82ED, a Perfect Ten

I have an old Nikon Fieldscope ED82 with 30xDS, 50xDS and 25-75x zoom since 2005. But now I will buy the Kowa 883 with the 25-60x eyepiece. I tried the Nikon Monarch ED82 + 30-60x zoom at home, but I have to say that I didn't like it. To me..the Monarch ED82 isn't as good as either the Kowa 883...

Buying a new scope (Kowa 883 or Nikon Monarch ED82)...

I have to partially correct myself and say that the Kowa 883 may be a little sharper and "cleaner" at higher magnifications than I may have first thought. When I look with my other eye, this specimen of 883 is not so contrastless after all. For a few years ago a doctor could see that I have...

Buying a new scope (Kowa 883 or Nikon Monarch ED82)...

I have now had time to compare the fourth specimen of the Kowa 883 with my old Nikon Fieldscope ED82. The Kowa 883 is optically better than the other 883 I have tried. With the zoom at 30x power it seems to be a little bit sharper than my Nikon ED82 with the 30xDS. But the zoom at 50x is less...

Buying a new scope (Kowa 883 or Nikon Monarch ED82)...

No, I did not try Zeiss and Swarovski this time (I have tried them before though). I red some negative reviews about the Zeiss Harpia, so it is not an altarnative for me. And I am not a fan of the placement of the focus ring on the Zeiss. That is why the Swarovski ATX isn't on my shortlist either.
