    Inaccessible bird species

Maffong writes: The top world listers are all below 9.800, meaning that all still need over 1.000 species, which I find a surprisingly high number. Peter Kaestner is now at 9856 IOC, 9670 ebird (as of May 8th, 2023). Anyone else following his lists on ebird & Surfbird? Fun to watch his...

Is this a Ruby-throated Hummingbird? Billings, MT

I think this is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, which is not common in Billings, MT. It has a bright green back and crown and has blackish primaries and the P10 (10th Primary) feather is pointed. Please let me know what you think. Also, is it a juvenile or adult female, or is it too hard to...

    Hummingbird - Billings, Montana, USA

Here are some more photos of the Archilochus sp hummingbird from the next day, Sunday, August 19th. (I finally had time to crop them and to sort out the 2nd hummer that showed up that day, which I think is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I am still somewhat confused with this one.)

    Hummingbird - Billings, Montana, USA

I have had Rufous, Calliope & Broad-tailed Hummingbirds previously at my Billings, Montana feeder, but today in the rain I had one that looked like either a Black-chinned female or possibly a Ruby-throated female. I have a few poor photos but was wondering if someone more familiar with those...

Empid - Patagonia Lake, Arizona December 11, 2017

Is this a Pacific Slope/Cordilleran Flycatcher? (Both species would be rare at this location according to eBird.) It seems too pale & yellow to me, but it does have the eyering narrowed at top & extended at rear. Taken December 11th, 2017 at Patagonia Lake State Park in Arizona, USA. Thanks...

    ABA Big Year 2017

The Stoll brothers (?) are now tied at 718 with Dusky Grouse their latest seen yesterday, 7-17-17, at Big Mountain Ski Resort in Whitefish, Montana! I doubt many other Big Year birders ever visited Montana, although I know Christian did last year since he had lived in Montana prior to his Big...

Juvenile Goshawk or Cooper's? Montana, USA

Taken this morning at Zimmerman Park in Billings, MT. I initially thought it was a recently fledged juvenile Cooper's Hawk as it was awkwardly hopping around when I took these poor photos. Then when it flew I thought juvenile Northern Goshawk on size alone. But looking at the photos with...

There was a Brambling photographed on Vancouver Island, BC on December 5th. Maybe Olaf should head there after Hawaii if it is sticking around. I am not sure if Laura & Christian still need Brambling. http://ebird.org/ebird/subnational1/CA-BC?yr=cur Jan in MT
