Vanguard Endeavour ED IV?
Definitely faulty Daniel, I get no such "softness" and "stiffening" with the focus wheel on the 10x42 EDIV. The focus is firm, smooth and accurate throughout its range. I'd send them back and insist on a replacement if I were you. -

I have the 8x42 EDII and the 10x42 EDIV, both fine binoculars, but of the two I'd pick the EDIV (that's assuming my 10x42 SLC HD was out of reach at the time ;-)). To some extent that could be down to a personal leaning towards 10x binooculars, but I think there's a bit more to it than that... -

No, I didn't measure it -- that's the number quoted on the box (for some reason they've stopped showing eye-relief on the website specs). I don't really have the measurement gear to hand to measure accurately, but a quick and dirty approximation using a length of plastic coated wire-fastener... -

Yes, sorry Bob... should have mentioned that. Of course the dioptre being incorporated into the central body / top hinge is one of the bigger differences (along with the new prisms) -- the knurled dial is lockable, you click it out to adjust it and then click it back in to lock it into position. -

Took these shots yesterday of a rather odd looking pipit at a small beach near Kinsale in Co. Cork. Afocal digiscoping with DSLR - help me!!
What camera settings are you using -- use the widest aperture, set the shutterspeed to a minimum of 1/1000th sec to start with and bump up the ISO if you need to to give you the correct exposure. A lot of the blur on digiscoped shots is down to camera shake... which is magnified astronomically...- WriterCJ

The best you've ever seen
Have to concur that my Swaro 10x42 SLC HD is still the best binocular I've ever had the pleasure of looking through. Never looked through an 8x but imagine they'd be up there and then some too! FWIW I've never had an issue with the focus on my 3 1/2 year old SLC HD 10x42 (the original SLC HD) -- never experienced any squeeking or sticking.
