Upgrading from Bridge Camera to M43

That looks much better. I will keep taking photos and practicing my PP. I'll try different software as well. Thanks for showing me the possibilities.

Upgrading from Bridge Camera to M43

Hi, Niels, I shot in RAW. I use Darktable and GIMP for processing. I have attached the RAW file if you (or anyone) wants to take a crack at it.

Upgrading from Bridge Camera to M43

I have now owned my Olympus E-M1 ii and Zuiko 100-400 lens for a few days, been shooting with it every chance I had. Some observations: Image Quality - My first session with the camera produced a lot of meh results. I was second guessing my decision to spend the money to upgrade. Yesterday, I...

Scrub jay with acorn. I think this year is a good yield for acorns.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Downy woodpecker. It is fairly small, so I barely noticed it hugging a willow branch at my local creek in Sonoma County, CA. I got a raw photo and deleted it before I was able to process it 😞. Hopefully I will see one again.

Did you use a hide to get this shot? It seems you were nice and close to this bird.

I think you're right! Goes to show I shouldn't be 100% sure about anything.

White crowned sparrow? Hybrid? Sonoma County, CA

Thank you. I agree, it looks like a white crown other than the lack of eye stripe (or just a hint of one). The immature golden crown seems to have more "messy" or mottled feathers on its crown, this one looks very "clean."

    Western Scrub Jay

Same bird, new camera. I was able to get very close to this jay, allowing me to capture nice details in its feathers. This was shot at 328mm from a seated position.

We have these in the bay area now. I see them in the north bay instead of mourning doves.

Really lovely. The birds themselves are a spectacle; we just have to capture it. You did just that.
  19. Black Phoebe

    Black Phoebe

My local black phoebe. Kind of a lucky shot as I just panic panned as the bird took off; somehow centered it so the AF could do its job. I shot this at 300mm to see if the image would sharpen up; it did.

White crowned sparrow? Hybrid? Sonoma County, CA

This looks like an immature white crowned sparrow, but the lack of an eye stripe hinders me from making a positive ID. Is this a hybrid with a golden crowned sparrow? Or something else completely?

Rumored Panasonic Lumix G9 ii with Phase Detect AF

Well, I just went from 12mp to 20mp. It sounds like a lot, but another way to look at it is I'm going from 4000x3000 to 5184x3888. I'm gaining ~1000 pixels at the edges, not as impressive sounding as almost double the megapixels. I suppose if you do a lot of cropping, I That is where it pays...

Rumored Panasonic Lumix G9 ii with Phase Detect AF

If you are a video shooter, mi vs mii is a significant difference. If you are missing shots due to AF, PD could be compelling. An extra 5mp, I dunno.
