    Inexpensive straight scope suggestions

you raise some good points and yes, my shooting background is influencing me. Most of the time I don’t imagine I’ll watch birds in flight with a scope - red kites are most likely. Snettisham does have a LOT of large flocks of knots and dunlins - it’s famous for them - and watching those with my...

    Inexpensive straight scope suggestions

That probably explains it. I am hoping that sticking to a low enough mag will allow hand holding/bracing to work much of the time. For the spoonbills getting ”twice as close” as my 8x32 would probably be enough - they are in middle of a gravel pit so not too far away - so really the large...

    Inexpensive straight scope suggestions

Thank you all for the replies. I was going to add a wink at the end of my Swarovski advert comment (@Hermann I am part-way through the ATC thread) but was hoping I could hand-hold the lower end of the mag spec. I used to be a pistol shooter so moderately steady hands. @Hermann again, yes, I...

    Inexpensive straight scope suggestions

Thank you Mike - yes, very interested. Need to check the weight as the 2 I mentioned seem quite small which is part of their appeal.

    Inexpensive straight scope suggestions

I’d appreciate advice on a straight scope for occaisional use. I have a caravan at RSPB Snettisham so won’t be walking far. I use Swarovski 8x32 binoculars and love them, but spoonbills tend to like the middle of the gravel pits and curlews have started coming to the beach (I.e. mudflats) and...

If you could have only ONE binocular ? (no list).

8x32 EL - love them as much today as when I bought them (Oct 2019). Sometimes wish I had a higher magnification but these are the only ‘alpha’ pair I have so they get a lot of use.

    Longer strap on EL 8x32

I contacted Swarovski and they are sending me adaptor rings and I expect to get the Vortex strap I would feel too self-conscious using a harness thank you for the comments and advice Nik

    Longer strap on EL 8x32

Thank you both, hoping for an in-house solution but this sounds like the more practical option. Vortex do an “archery” binocular strap which looks like it’ll do the trick.

    Longer strap on EL 8x32

I have a pair of EL 8x32, bought in 2019 I am very happy with them, but would like to carry them “cross body” and the strap is a little shorter than I would like. Do Swarovski offer a longer strap? I find their website unclear on this thank you in advance.

One Swarovski, mostly one location (Snettisham)

Thank you for all the replies. I do just want to get one pair although the CL+SLC idea does have merit. I hope to try them within the next week so will see which feels best in hand, and confirm how steadily I can hold the 10x32/10x42. If a pair fits in the bellows pocket of a Barbour jacket...

One Swarovski, mostly one location (Snettisham)

Thanks guys, I was considering the 10x32 but read somewhere concerns about eye relief. I wear glasses so this is important. The Swarovski spec suggests it should be OK but if anyone has had an issue I would be grateful to hear.

One Swarovski, mostly one location (Snettisham)

New here, this is a variation on what I am sure is a regularly-asked question but I’d appreciate feedback from people who may have gone through the same thought process, and who have used/handled the models I am considering. I am looking to get a pair of binoculars, primarily for use at RSPB...

    Just joined

Hi, just joined the forum so saying “hello” to you all. My birding knowledge is poor - is that a Spoonbill or Little Egret at 200m for example - but got to start somewhere. If I ask questions asked a million times before, please be patient - I frequent wristwatch forums and they can be...
