    Warbler audio ID

That was it, just a short sharp blast. It's one of the reasons I didn't think it was a Blackcap. I hear Blackcaps in the field everyday but I had wandered down towards the bank and heard this really loud short song out of nowhere, coming from bushes overhanging the water. I think that as I...

    Warbler audio ID

Hi Plenty of Blackcaps around here (Wellington, Somerset) but I heard this today near the river (bottom left of photo on audio clip) and it was a shorter, very abrupt sound, very loud. Sounds like other warblers I've seen/heard elsewhere but to my untrained ear, similar but not exactly to a...

Hawke service - good experience in UK

Quick update on my situation. Sent my damaged binoculars on Friday by Special Delivery, they arrived with Hawke on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon I got an email saying the damage meant they would replace and I received the new pair today, Wednesday, around 11:30am. Incredible.

Hawke service - good experience in UK

I was just about to post a question about Hawke. My pair of EDX 8x42 fell out of my rucksack as I was getting out of the car, cracked the central hinge. They've responded, just need to find the receipt and send them off. Fingers crossed they will be able to salvage them.....

Short UK trip end Sept - advice sought

Kent: Sheppey, I remember seeing something recently about a fabulous place to stay within a reserve. Bonus being my wife was born there so extra comedy value! As for Dungeness, good shout as I've always meant to go there after seeing pictures of Derek Jarman's garden. Kent sounds like a good...

Short UK trip end Sept - advice sought

Thank you both, any specific destinations people have in mind would be welcome. East coast would be nice. I haven't been there on holiday since I was a child, but yes, quite a hike. We had a week in Hayle before the Winter lockdown but I wouldn't be adverse to exploring Cornwall more.

Short UK trip end Sept - advice sought

Hi folks It's a big birthday this year and my better half is trying to convince me that I should make some effort to do something special for it, I usually keep it very quiet. So, I'm just looking for any recommendations for a short trip in the UK (3 days or so) around the end of September...

    Warbler, Somerset 11th April 2021

Thanks folks, I appreciate the input. What threw me was that this was a lot paler and less olive/light brown underneath than the chiffchaffs I see, and also the stripe above the eye was clearer and a bolder yellow, much more striking than the chiffchaffs I've been seeing. I think camerawork is...

    Warbler, Somerset 11th April 2021

Just a newb looking for some help. I can see this is a warbler but I am unsure of myself as to which. Seen today (Somerset, UK) building a nest in shrubbery at the base of a tree just above a stream. My initial guess was Willow, but I realise they can be mistaken for Chiffchaff. Photos taken at...

Male (juvenile?) hen harrier/pale juvenile buzzard? nr Wiveliscombe, Somerset, UK

Thanks folks. I appreciate your help. I think the ghostliness of the bird sent me on a path....

Male (juvenile?) hen harrier/pale juvenile buzzard? nr Wiveliscombe, Somerset, UK

Any thoughts as to if this is a pale juvenile buzzard or possibly a (juvenile?) male hen harrier? My apologies for the terrible photography. The photos were taken at a distance with an old bridge camera that I am still getting used to! I haven't posted any more because they need to be zoomed in...
