couple of hours this afternoon - 2 LRPs in the channel underneath main hide at the flashes, counted 15 avocets, Moors had a flyover sparrowhawk, 1 curlew and two little egrets flying over North Moors
we went last November for two weeks with Alan and Ruth @biggesttwitch and also Serge Arias @costa rica birding with Abelardo Benavides - couldn't recommend them highly enough - superb organisation, nice pace, great birds (would have cracked 400 if we hadn't had a couple of days of torrential...
well we might bump into each other (although we are only up in the area four or five times a year at the moment) - will try and do more justice to Flint next time we are up and hopefully the roadworks will be finished by then.
weren't able to hang around too long but the directions were spot on - this stretch of the coast truly is a hidden gem (although possibly not on Sunday afternoon at peak dog walking time!)
I think I know my way to Flint Point - I assume the best place to park is the Castle car park? Many thanks for this and hopefully the forecast gale will blow itself out - not looking forward to a sea watch on Anglesey at the moment!
we went yesterday - the cool conditions probably accounted for the absence of pied flys and redstarts, although one was spotted before we arrived at the spot, but there were pushing double figures of wood warblers and some very vocal tree pipits
glossy ibis in the bag on a detour on the way home from work this evening - pretty happy with that although the weather wasn't up to much - and added swallows and sand martins to my year list
got it... Sedge warbler was occasionally having a sing in hen brook this afternoon, but refused to come into view... and the LRPs were at 'it' in front of the hide at the flashes so the cages might be needed soon!
lapwings seem to like the reworking at the flashes! although they weren't too fussed about the fox patrolling the field next to the sewage works... a trio of snipe were also on one of the promontories in front of the hide as well.
