    Little Bustard in sharp decline

Thank you. I was afraid of that....

    Little Bustard in sharp decline

What is the main reason for this decline? Loss of habitat?

    Displaying larger photos

I do prefer forum posts with the images inserted ( as I think is the case with the majority of the online forums). Especially in trip reports the images appear where they are relevant to the story which, to me anyway, makes for a much more pleasant reading experience.

    Birdjournal.com

The long-awaited IOC update has now been implemented, so Bird Journal is still very much alive, fortunately.

    Birdjournal.com

I am using Bird Journal and I'm still quite happy with it. Having said that, the long- awaited and promised update of the IOC taxonomy is of some concern to me. I do hope it is not a sign of declining interest in maintaining the software.

    Namibia - October 2018

Nice report and quite a total for the time you spent there! I also saw the Pel's at Xaro Lodge, though I was staying at Drotsky's at the time. One of the highlights of our trip. @dave williams: I rented an Avanza a few years ago and quite liked it. The only 'issue' I remember is that it is a...

    Birding krugerpark

Around Crocodile Bridge Camp I found the S114 )From Malelane to Crocodile, running parallel to Crocodile River) quite productive with both Verreaux's Eagle Owl and Barred Owlet in late afternoon. The turn-off to the Hippo Pool may also be worthwhile. Also the S28 dirt road, which turns off from...

I do use the IOC list. I'll have a look at Scythebill, thanks.

    Birding krugerpark

It's still a bit confusing, at least to me. On my recent trip to the Gambia, the guides invariably referred to them as Black Kites , but in both the IOC and the Clements taxonomy they are a full species (I think). In E-bird it is treated as a subspecies.

    Costa Rica: Laguna del lagarto

Thank you very much, Matthias, that is really useful to know! It is a shame about the forest, but I hope the photographic opportunities will make up for that. Yes, I did realize that except for breakfast, no meals were included, so we'll see about that.

I agree with the others about the 'South African Birdfinder. Very good information. Around Crocodile Bridge Camp I found the S114 )From Malelane to Crocodile, running parallel to Crocodile River) quite productive with both Verreaux's Eagle Owl and Barred Owlet in late afternoon. The turn-off to...

    Costa Rica: Laguna del lagarto

Perhaps it is new, indeed. I mailed the lodge and that's the info I got back in their reply. They did not mention any other possibilities, so I wondered if someone who had actually been there could give me an independent view on those.I don't mind paying for a good photography option, but that...

    Costa Rica: Laguna del lagarto

My wife and I will be travelling in Costa Rica next February. One of the lodges we are spending a few days is Laguna del Lagarto. It is said to have good photo opportunities. I have een told, though, that the use of the photography platform will be $35 pp. That would mean $70 is we both want to...

    Lens choice 7d mk1 ( or maybe mk2 )

That’s good to hear and yes it was at iso 6400. I usually do my processing in Lightroom.

    Lens choice 7d mk1 ( or maybe mk2 )

There is no need to limit yourself to iso 800 withe the 7DII. Even iso 6400 preserves a lot of detail and, with some PP work, can produce attractive results. Not every time, of course, but is quite possible. Have fun with the camera and lens!

Spain road trip - June 11-28

Many excellent photos, both scenery and birds! We also visited the Planeron and the Pyrenees in June, though nearer to Huesca. You did well with the Dupont’s, we dipped on that one. We thought about driving on to Extremadura, but, like you, we hesitated about the area in June. You still managed...
