Rufus-Crowned or Rufus-Winged Sparrow?? (Green Valley, AZ, today)

Thank you both! Lisa, this was taken @ 1600mm (800 FL ED lens + 2x TC), and I still had to crop-in 50% They are very small and don't allow close approach. I saw two and was only able to get this shot. Cheers,

Sharp-Shinned or Cooper's Hawk?? (Green Valley, AZ)

One source I read said that Cooper's Hawk is about the size of the crow, Sharp-Shinned about the size of the large blue Jay. If that's true, I'd have to say this was a Cooper's Hawk, because it was about 2-3x the size of a blue Jay. Thanks for the feedback.

Purple Finch? Cassin's Finch? Or?? (Los Angeles Mountains)

Thanks for the response. I've grown up with House Finches all my life ... I agree the first is Purple ... I've never seen one before ... that hue + those markings. l'd wager the other two are also, because I've never seen "orange" like that before (with almost non-existent striping). These...

    Yellow-Headed Warbler (ID?)

Commas and periods always go inside the quotation marks in American English (check where I'm from, genius). Dashes, colons, and semicolons almost always go outside the quotation marks; question marks and exclamation marks sometimes go inside, sometimes stay outside...

A sincere thanks to all of you who have taken the time to comment. I will amend my description to "Hermit Warbler," as I have no additional evidence of hybridization. "Simplicity is prerequisite for reliability." ~ Edsger Dijkstra
