    Essex Birding

lesser spotted woodpeckers - shut heath wood finally caught up with a couple on Friday, seems they have been very elusive this year so I think I was rather lucky, some record pics attached. For anybody looking for them they were in the area between the bench and the holly tree when we found...

    HullBridge

I used to work that way a lot Steve and there wasn't anywhere exceptional birding wise to make the trip from Braintree area. You'd probably see more at Heybridge walking round the gravel pit and sea wall from the basin than going all the way to Hullbridge.

    Suffolk Birding

thanks for the comment Kathy (and the others). I like to put a bit of a report on the places I go to even if I see nothing unusual as it gives future visitors, especially those unfamiliar with the area, an idea of what they should hope to see on an average day rather than on a day when...

    Essex Birding

I don't think I mentioned the eagle, bit of a sod really as I was in Suffolk (Minsmere) on Friday 13th - unlucky for me, so my eyes would have needed to be exceptional to see it over Rayne, just a shame I was in the wrong place at the time rather than at home. Even then there's no guarantee...

i.d. required for hawk in suffolk today

I'm pretty sure it's a goshawk - that was what we were out looking for and it was in an area of suffolk well known for them. I'm not a real expert but showed the pics (which are very heavily cropped) to a couple of other birders who said they thought it was but would appreciate confirmation if...
