Got my Nikon 200-500 today for a Black Friday price of £999, and from a reputable dealer, Wilkinson Cameras, so it’s not a grey import and has a 2 year warranty. Sadly, not going to get much of a go with it till January as it’s a 70th birthday present for end of December. Did put it on my D7200...

I know it’s heavier but that isn’t a deal-breaker (the weight of the 150-600 Sigma Sports is a deal/back breaker) It feels good on my camera body and I’ve got a couple of folders of shots taken with the Nikon and the Tammy on my D7200 and there isn’t much in them size-wise at full zoom.

The deeper I delve into this long zoom malarkey the more I keep seeing the phrases “good example” and “bad example” and “fine tuning using the dock” with regard to the Tammy and the two Sigmas. Now call me a sceptic snowflake but I don’t want to be getting a “bad example” and having to send it...

Thanks for the insight Chosun. As to the lens you linked to above it’s from MH-Direct. A year ago, when I had my D5600, I bought one new from MH-Direct and Tamron UK wouldn’t register it as it was a grey import, so I sent it back. Not sure where 2nd owners come in the warranty pecking order but...

Heart says Nikon, head (and load bearing parts of my anatomy) says Tamron. Still got a way to go before acquisition though. Off to the Cairngorms on Tuesday, with the 70-300, in search of crested tits and golden eagles.

Thanks for the input Marc. I think, as an enthusiastic amateur and not a dedicated photographer, I will probably be happy with the results from the Tamron, but there are some stunning results for both lenses on view on the internet. The Tamron certainly seems a bit less of a lump to carry around...

More lens reviewing in-store and this time also had a look at the Sigma 150-600 but decided I didn’t like it as much as the Tammy or the Nikon as the zoom was stiff and turned the “wrong way” December is getting nearer and with it a decision about the lens and I’m now veering toward the Tammy...

Thanks Marc and Chosun, I’m still interested in the Tammy if I can get one to try out on my D7200. As far as zooming goes, I think the Nikon zoomed fully in less than 180degrees but I wasn’t really concentrating on that. I’ll have a look at that link you posted and put it into the melting pot...

Went back to Jessops with D7200 body to test out the two lenses and, Sod’s Law being what it is, the Tamron was a Canon mount and they didn’t have a Nikon mount. Anyhoo, onto the camera went the Nikon 200-500 and very nice, and well-balanced, it felt too. Didn’t mess much with the camera...

Sounds like it. Is it annoying or distracting?

Went to Jessops to have a look at the Nikon 200-500 and the Tammy 150-600. They had both lenses but not a “trial body” to put them on as it was out on loan and guess who hadn’t taken his camera body along? Both are hefty lumps and I guess a look through them will have to wait a couple of days...

Sorry, I meant a Nikon fit tc. Just a question of do Tamron do one for the lens? All the video reviews I see say that it’s a full frame lens but I assume it will work on DX bodies like my D7200?
