Hello - new to birding - very new

Hi Michael, A very warm welcome from a dull and chilly u.k. Try checking out the review link when you open bird forum but if you are new to birding handle the bins before you buy and one pair will feel right and when that happen buy them.

    Cups for ID

Sorry Charlie I didn't see that in my books. Was the Hawthorn live or dead? The middle looks like Eyelash cup Scutellinia scutellata but they don't have a white edge. Look forward to seeing the answer when you get it. Nigel

How to locate birds in dense foliage?

Lee (troubadour) advice is spot on. Put yourself into the shadows and lean against a tree you then become part of that tree and remember nature gave us two eyes, two ears but only one mouth and that was not by chance. Time spent looking and listening is never wasted.

Re: Hi! (Newbie trying to solve a mystery)

Sorry you said dropping on the bins which rules out deer. Have you taken a dropping apart to see what is inside ? is there anything nesting in the ivy behind the bins ? Nigel
