In case anybody is interested, I post regular sightings from the Ribble Estuary (Hesketh Out Marsh, Marshside, Ainsdale beach etc) on my blog here. I can post updated links as and when new items go on if there’s any interest:

I'd be interested in thoughts of this female Wigeon sp. currently at Hesketh Out Marsh (where there is also currently a drake American Wigeon).
I guess, that unless the apparent greyish tinge and speckling to the axillaries are some sort photo artifact then a female American is ruled out? Shame...
This gull was at Southport Marine Lake this weekend. Clearly darker than the argenteus Herrings, but also visibly lighter than the LBB's. The light was not great and the birds maybe look slightly darker than they were in these images - the clear LBB in the pics was a "typical" graellsii. Legs...

Pics taken into bright sunlight so mantle looks darker than it was - the pic with the LBB and GBB show mantle colour compared with them and also size.
Large gull with yellowish legs in the field. Had put it down as a sub-adult YLG, but...

It is slightly larger than a mallard, so size is ok, but to me the bill looks on the large side and the head appears too...

Also is high tide the best or a couple of hours before?
Any help appreciated.

I'm from Lancashire in England and have recently moved back there after a 3 year stint in London where...
