In case anybody is interested, I post regular sightings from the Ribble Estuary (Hesketh Out Marsh, Marshside, Ainsdale beach etc) on my blog here. I can post updated links as and when new items go on if there’s any interest: https://wadingthroughwigeon.wordpress.com/ All the best, Stuart

    Wigeon - Lancashire, England

I'd be interested in thoughts of this female Wigeon sp. currently at Hesketh Out Marsh (where there is also currently a drake American Wigeon). I guess, that unless the apparent greyish tinge and speckling to the axillaries are some sort photo artifact then a female American is ruled out? Shame...

    Gull - Lancashire, March 2018

This gull was at Southport Marine Lake this weekend. Clearly darker than the argenteus Herrings, but also visibly lighter than the LBB's. The light was not great and the birds maybe look slightly darker than they were in these images - the clear LBB in the pics was a "typical" graellsii. Legs...

    Gull - London August 23/08/17

Had this one pegged as Yellow-legged on structure, bill size etc, but would appreciate comments - no flight shots unfortunately

Gull - Thames Barrier Park, London late August

Be interested in views on this bird from late August. Pics taken into bright sunlight so mantle looks darker than it was - the pic with the LBB and GBB show mantle colour compared with them and also size. Large gull with yellowish legs in the field. Had put it down as a sub-adult YLG, but...

    Falcon - NW England

was pretty happy with the ID of this in the field, but when I uploaded my pics, a couple of features confused me. I've now looked at it too many times and have ID mental block, any thoughts?

Ross's Goose or Snow/Ross's Hybrid - Lancs, England

There has been quite a bit said about this bird currently at Marshside RSPB, one side saying pure Ross's (including a few American birders), the other Ross's/Snow Hybrid. It is slightly larger than a mallard, so size is ok, but to me the bill looks on the large side and the head appears too...

    Llanddulas

Where's the best place to watch from for the Scoter flock at Llanddulas please? Is it Wern Road? Also is high tide the best or a couple of hours before? Any help appreciated.

    Montenegro - 18th September - 2nd October 2011

We have recently returned from a trip to Montenegro which consisted of 2 weeks stopping in the lovely town of Petrovac on the Balkan coast. Although this was predominantly a relaxing holiday as my wife's not a birder, I did manage to get some birding in every day and hired a car to visit the 2...
