Autonomous Field Recorder - PART IV (Setup 2/2)

Hi Vollmeise, Rec forge starts the recording precisely in time and yes, you can schedule a recording twice a day, even more. I have done a quick test with 20:15 and 20:30 with 2 minutes each and works very well. And you can select a different repetition time: I like what Macrodroid is...

Autonomous Field Recorder - PART IV (Setup 2/2)

Thanks for all this information!!!! I have been testing my smartphone as well :) I use different apps, this is what I use: For my tests I am using my everyday smarthphone (Motorola Moto G8 power - Android 10) and an external mic: PUI AOM 5024L HD-R The app I use for recording is: REC FORGE...

    Mics mono/stereo

Yes, I used the smartphone (Merlin bird ID) for the firecrest audio. Always the same song, level at maximun in my phone. It was on my hand. Umbrella and backpack on the boulder. I have 2 olympus LS P1. One is for the backpack and the other one for the umbrella. Both were recording in manual...

    Mics mono/stereo

Today I have done some outdoor tests :) comparing the umbrella "new prototype" and a "normal" mic. The backpack has an AOM 5024L (with battery box) connected to the olympus LSP1 recording all the time while I am hiking. It has also a TRRS output for birdnet, the smarthphone goes in the green...

    Mics mono/stereo

Vollmeise, Thanks for all the information :) I have dismantled the housing and done a quick prototype with a 100mm diameter dish (2mm acrilic). As soon as I get the new mics I am going to do it much better. The "umbrella" is better option for me than the real parabolic dish because I hike...

    Mics mono/stereo

I have readed this post with a lot of useful information: DIY STEREO PARABOLA When I bought the squirrel, I was going to copy the Figure 15 but I was afraid of the handling noise, this is why I did the housing, but with the housing I lost something very important that I didn't realize at the...

    Mics mono/stereo

Thanks for the advise :) I have ordered 6 mics and they are on the way. Aluminium tubes are not a good idea either. I am going to rebuilt the "umbrella".

    Mics mono/stereo

Tonight I have changed the position of the parabollic dishes and placed the mic of the umbrella above the shaft. Haven't recorded any interesting bird. I am attaching a file with a sound (above umbrella, below squirrel (one channel))

    Mics mono/stereo

I have tested my two parabolic dishes tonight. (Curtains are to prevent the neighbours from seeing that I am recording) 3 files: 1 Eagle owl with the squirrel baffle no edit (only one channel) 1 Eagle owl with the umbrella no edit (microphone below the shaft, normally I put it above) I have...

    Mics mono/stereo

Hi Avetarda, I use the squirrel baffle at home for night recordings and haven't tested it in the field. The one I use more is the "umbrella", I am going to test both of them to compare :-) There is a easy test you can do putting the ME66 inward on the shaft of an umbrella, this should work...

Organization of many bird calls by frequency

Hi and welcome :) I am a beginner with little experience but have done some research to find a way to classify bird songs in long recordings. I tried Kaleidoscope Pro (trial = 2 weeks) to find Tawny olw sounds (800hz). Each file 3h20' and 2 Gb. There are some tutorials to learn the basics. I...

    Background noise

I have some mics in aluminium tubes (10mm diameter inside - 12mm outside). Using some of then I have found strange lines in the spectrogram, not always, it took me some time to discover that it was because of the pressure I put on the mics, they are very sensitive. If it is very tight it can...

    Mics mono/stereo

I am not an sound expert..... all the contrary, a very beginner. I did this prototype to learn :) You are right, the best is to search the focal point and place the mic there. When I record with this setup, in stereo, I only use one channel in audacity because both are almost the same. So if I...

    Background noise

I like your system!!! I have to test mine to the limit :) The plug you have for the smarthphone.... I am going to copy it but with an 90ยบ angled plug and a silicone tube so it will be more resistant to shocks. I will check automation Macrodroid and Tasker, thanks :)

    Mics mono/stereo

One thing is to record in mono and do it stereo in post and another one is to listen in stereo in real time. If you have one mic, you can use only one channel to record in mono and then use audacity to copy and paste and create the second channel so you have stereo. If you are recording in...

    Background noise

And all the recorder-battery system fits perfectly in a very small box with a home made "battery box". For cold nights I would use a better insulated box. The battery compartment is for the battery box, an EN-EL20 (nikon P1000). TRS for the recorder.

It is very interesting what you are doing with the smathphone. I have checked recforge II PRO and it has the programming option :) Good to know that I did something wrong with my test! I used also a breadboard, with "batery box" and without (50cm away from the speaker) I have done recordings...

    Background noise

This is a very good mic!!!!!! Perfect for the smarthphone and birdnet :-) Love it! As an idea, you could add the top of a plastic bottle, it helps to remove noise from behind, test it with a river in your back ;-)

Kaixo Vollmeise :) I read this here: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/324450/can-i-connect-multiple-electret-microphones-for-better-gain " I am a technician at a boutique mic company. I like to build electret mics in my spare time. You can increase sensitivity, gain, and signal...

Kaixo Borja! Elorriotik :) I am attaching more examples, this morning I had to stop with an European Robin. Olympus LS P1 + home made parabolic dish with an Umbrella (50cm diameter) + High pass filter (8.4v) with PUI AOM 5024L HD microphone. No edits, gain level 6, level 5 and level 4. There...

    Audacity and file editing

Audacity --> I use Effect - Graphic EQ (Both for reducing the low frecuencies (noise) and increasing the part of the sound I want.) I think it is better to record with low level noise and increase the sound you want in post rather than record with more general noise and try to fix it.

    Background noise

I have very very little experience. Mainly with Tawny owls which are very commun in my area. I started birding a year and a half ago and with audio about half a year ago. All self-taught and learning as much as I can :) I am attaching an heavily edited audio of what I think is an eagle owl...

    Background noise

I do not use more than gain 10. If the sound is low then try with a home made parabolic dish with an umbrella (diameter 50cm) or try to get close to the bird. I am attaching 2 examples so you can have an idea of the quality: 1 - A great tit with the olympus LSP1 + PUI AOM 5024 HD L external...
