My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

That is an SLC not a CL in the middle. That's unfair!

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I tried the Meopta Meostar 8x32 and I wasn't that impressed with it. The Meostar 8x42 and 15x56 are a lot better IMO. I think Allbino's has the Meopta Meostar 8x32 at about 19th place and that is where I would put it. I don't understand the love for that binocular. It eludes me. I mean c'mon a...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Here is a nice comparison of the Swarovski Habicht 8x30 and the Swarovski CL 8x30 and also a thread on Bird Forum discussing the two. https://bestbuybinoculars.com/review-swarovski-habicht-8x30-w#swarovski-habicht-821530-w-vs-swarovski-cl-companion-821530...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Cabela's probably push the Vortex's because they are made by Kamakura and they have a lot more profit margin than Swarovski's. Kamakura probably makes a binocular for $200.00 for Vortex that they sell for $1000.00 at Cabela's so Cabela's makes more money on every Vortex they sell. There isn't as...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Your absolutely correct. I have bought and sold a lot of binocular's and the resale on Swarovski's is always the best and they sell the quickest. Nikon EDG's are great binocular's but they have poor resale value.

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I know it. Every time I start to look at Swarovski's at Cabela's the salesman steer's me to Vortex's. Last time he said "Now here is the binocular you should be buying. Half the price of those Swarovski's and REALLY they perform just as well."

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

They don't even have any Zeiss binocular's in Colorado at Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabela's, Scheel's or Bass Pro outside of a few Terra at Sportsman's Warehouse and Cabela's and a few SF's at Scheel's. Huge case of Swarovski for the high end and huge case of Nikon's for the medium and low end...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I agree with you on the CL's. I think they are the best 8x30's you can buy and funny thing is they don't show glare like the 8x32 EL's. Like you say a lot nicer to carry and use with their smaller size and weight. There is a lot of difference between 17oz. for the CL and 22 oz. for the EL. The...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Andreas. I really agree with everything you said here. The big FOV on the Nikon HG's come with a cost and that cost is aberration's. Sometime's I think the huge FOV of the Nikon EII 8x30 is almost too much to take in. I would rather have a slightly smaller more optically perfect FOV.

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I agree with you on the Zeiss Conquest HD. Bulky, smallish FOV especially on the 8x42 and although they are bright their contrast is not up there with something like a Swarovski. You can really see it when you side by side the two. It seems that contrast is one thing that set's the higher end...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

The point should be made that the "Perfect 8x32" may be perfect for somebody else but not for you. You have to find the perfect binocular that suits you and how you use it.

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I read Holger's review and it is good and it is in line with Allbino's review but he doesn't judge as many criteria nor is it as thorough as Allbino's review. He doesn't rate important criteria like astigmatism and coma which are areas that the Cl has a distinct advantage over the HG. Although...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Actually the Swarovki CL 8x30 has a bigger FOV than the Nikon HG 8x30 if you just count the sweetspot or the % of the FOV that is sharp. Allbino's say's that on the Swarovski CL 8x30 blur occurs in a distance of 92.5% ± 3% from the field of view center and on the Nikon HG 8x30 blur occurs in a...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Interesting that you thought the Nikon HG 8x30 has sharper edges than the Swarovski CL 8x30. I have had them both and IMO the Swarovski has much sharper edges in agreement with Allbino's. I do agree the Swarovski CL 8x30 is not the perfect bug or butterfly binocular if that is your thing because...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Yes, I have a friend that has a new one and I tried it and I was impressed with it. The edges seemed much sharper than when I tried one a while back. Maybe Kowa made some improvement's through the years.

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

"In my testing of the near $1000 price point, the most overpriced of the lot; the Swaro CL, had the worst edging issue in my eyes." You must have had a defective Swarovski 8x30 CL! Quote's from Allbino's on the Swarovski 8x30 CL "Flat field of view, pin-sharp practically to the very edge."...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

I tried a Kowa Genesis 8x33 and I have to agree with you. One of the best overall 32mm binocular's out there for the price. I think they improved the optic's in the last year or so because I find the edges much sharper. I can't find anything wrong with it.

The porro's are not as expensive to make as a good roof. Much simpler design.

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

You should try a Nikon M7 8x30. Almost as good as the Nikon HG 8x30 and as good as the Maven 8x30 for a lot less money. The Nikon HG 8x30 is exorbitantly overpriced for what it is. The M7 8x30 has almost as good of edges as the HG 8x30 for 1/3 the money. Next time you try the HG 8x30 look at the...

My Quest for the Perfect 8x32

Very entertaining post! I think these are the decision's everybody goes through when they are choosing any binocular and in your case it is an 8x30/8x32. You didn't mention the edges when you talked about the Nikon 8x30 HG Monarch and for me that is the deal killer with that binocular. It is...
