I use one my 773 and it is absolutely fantastic. I can only imagine it would be that much better on the 88mm. Of course you lose some fov, but if you need to really observe details from miles away, it is invaluable.
Here is my Breitling Chronomat Evolution on a rubber strap, alongside the new Zeiss 8x32 SF. I absolutely love this watch and wear it out in the field quite often.
That will be an interesting comparison! I find that my 8x32 SF are really growing on me, especially when I use them out in the mountains under real world conditions. However, there is something about them that makes them seem slightly less sharp, as well as not such a 'brilliant' view, as EL's...
Yeah I ordered a pair of the 10x32 SF's from them earlier this fall and was able to use a 20% off Coupon. The actual binoculars shipped from Optics Planet. Its rare to find 20% off of newly released Alpha bins. However when I decided to go with the 8x instead, EuroOptic price matched Campsaver...
I’ve had both the 10 and 8x32 SF’s. The 10’s were indeed harder for eye placement. I ended up with the 8’s as my keepers as they were easier for me to use and avoid blackouts.
I think you are on the right track with your last statement. After passing my BN’s on to you, I’ve tried the following: Swaro 8x32 EL WB, 8x32 EL SV, 10x32 EL SV, 8.5x42 EL SV, Zeiss 10x32 SF and have FINALLY found my perfect bino’s.. the 8x32 SF. It is so much better than the swaros as far as...
So glad you both are enjoying them! If I didnt have to fund other bino's, I would have never sold. They are beautiful bino's that are built superbly. The view is just so nice.
To answer my own question, yes the 8x32 SF’s are easier to look through and less sensitive to eyecup position than the 10’s. The 8’s just arrived today and already they are noticeably easier for me to use comfortably. I don’t get the rolling ball effect that I was getting with the 10’s. Despite...
Well.. I was still curious about the 8x32 SF, as I had only tried out the 10, which i didn’t find as good as I hoped as far as ease of use etc. I managed to find a retailer in the States that had one in stock. I sent them an email and got them to discount it by $350! It just arrived and I’ve...
Hey Matt, I do think that improved coatings have made a difference. I recently tried both a 2018 and 2018 8.5x42 EL and in low sunlight, I’m pretty sure I could tell a difference in glare reduction in the newer one. It sure looked like the 201& had more milky, veiling, glare. The ‘19 had the...
It is super easy to trim the Field Optics winged eyecups to whatever size or shape suits you. I have done that with them for my Victory Pockets. They are now about a third of the size as normal and fit way better.
I returned the 10x32's as I just did not have the comfortable viewing experience that I hoped for. I think I may give the 8's a try though. I placed a backorder for them, as they seem to have sold out of stock in most places in the U.S. already.
The larger exit pupil and decreased magnification...
Yes all good thoughts. This is the 6th new Swaro I’ve handled this summer and the worse quality control yet. I’m beginning to think that I should start my own thread with Dennis so that we can be bino butterflies together and not annoy everyone else haha
I don’t think the hair and cleaning marks...
Well I received a pair of 2020 8x32 EL’s today. You would think by now that they would be refined. The focus wheel is horrible. Rough, with a distinctly firmer turn to the right while turning to the left is rough and too light. The left barrel has a hair on an inside element as well as some...
So Sportsmans and Cabela's here in Alaska will price match the new lower prices, so your only looking at $2160 ish for the 8.5 or 10x42's. Cabela's in S Anchorage has a 8.5x42 EL if you're interested. Also Bass Pro has the 8.5x42, but the model they have on display has a focuser that is...
Thanks for your thoughts on that. A lot comes down to preference I think, such as the color hues of each bino. I wish I had bought the 8x rather than 10x32 SF to try out. However I think they would still share much of the same characteristics, such as the flattening of the image and color. I’ll...
Yes, the size of adjustments were too great between settings, so I could not get the right eye relief to avoid either blackouts or a lessening of the fov. The o ring essentially added a few mil to the 3rd position, creating a more ideal eye relief, so that I could bring them up to my face at the...
I was swapping back and forth between the 8.5x42 EL and the 10x32SF looking out over a wetland with lots of greens and browns. The SF most definitely had a greenish/yellow color cast to it compared to the Swaro’s. So much so that the vegetation looked a bit unnatural. The Swaro’s, to my eyes...
Alright I just ordered a new 8x32 EL and sent back the Zeiss 10x32 SF. I’ll deal with any glare in order to have the binos that suit me best and give the absolute best view.
Yes I did own the 10x32 for about 5 days and returned it due to the glare. After trying the 10x32 SF, the Zeiss is just not for me. I am sticking with Swarovski despite their faults. I just feel they give a more comfortable viewing experience. The 8x32 EL is back on the list, which is a long way...
So I’ve been evaluating the 10x32 SF, after making an o ring adjustment to the eye cups. Comparing to a 8.5x42 EL, the view is not as neutral, showing more of a green color cast. Also the rolling ball effect or whatever you want to describe it as, is a lot more pronounced in the SF.
My questions...
Hi Chuck, thanks for the feedback. That’s certainly good to know. I made a modification to the Zeiss 32 SF eye cups with an O Ring and it looks like I may be able to use them after all and not have to go back the the EL’s. I really would prefer 10x for my uses and the SF looks to be better than...
